All of the hate that NOLA gets is unwarranted.

Sure, it has its problems and is not perfect. But it gets demonized on this board in what I think is an unfair manner. NOLA has a number of advantages:
-Compactness: I never have to travel outside of a five mile radius to get anywhere I need to be. Compare this with driving hours to get across, say, Houston or Dallas.
-Architecture. All of the houses look unique. Compare this to the hideous buildings in Sugar Land or Katy.
-Lack of "economic development". This sounds bad on its face but is actually a blessing in disguise. This means that there aren't millions of people from California flooding in and "luxury apartments" (read: crack dens in the making) springing up everywhere.
And as far as crime is concerned, is Houston any better? Houston is basically NOLA but without the advantages:
Houston is hot as hell.
Houston is humid as hell.
Houston is ghetto as hell.
Houston still gets hurricanes and floods.
However, Houston is also a massive metropolis that requires long trips to get anywhere.
So I figured its time someone on this board sticks up for NOLA.

Go right ahead. You'll be on your own for a long time.

I get this is supposed to be irony . . . but you are still wrong.

Are people from the Northeast any better?

It's warranted. People hate that NOLA isn't what it used to be. Sure it had it's issues but it was realtely safe as far as big cities go. Now it's rotten pertty much everywhere.

Why is the only comparison we get Houston? Which, truthfully, ain't that bad.
I know some hardcore Nola fans, and even they are starting to question things.

Saying an advantage of New Orleans over Houston is crime and weather shows how much of a reach it has become.
NOLA sucks. It could be so much more than it is but I see it getting worse and not improving.

The problem with nola is its level of lawlessness is accepted by the politicians and some locals. It's voluntarily being handed over to the thugs to do as they please

I mean, why would someone drop 700k to live in this:
When you could live in this?

parts of Houston sure, but the green portion is safe and largely more affordable than New Orleans.

Yes, all of that is true, but New Orleans has become a lawless third world city. The criticism is warranted.

Would live back in NOLA before Houston fwiw

Houston has an extremely diverse population and a food scene that beats anyone including NOLA.
And I don’t care for Houston for all the reasons cited. It’s a day long adventure to try many of those places.

As someone who lived there through my young adult years from 2010-2020, I disagree.
Nola is cool when you're in your 20's and early 30's, or an old money millionaire, but it's cons far outweigh its pros for the majority of people. Especially if you're trying to better yourself and your family.
