I don’t think LSU has the pitching depth to come out of the loser’s bracket. You don’t risk it, pitch Skenes game 1.

Agree with this, need to do whatever you can to avoid the loser's bracket. But, if you do find yourself in there, better to be the 3rd game going against the other's team's 3rd pitcher and hope your offense can carry the load.

Skenes
TBD
TBD

Wake has to win game 1, too. They didn't get a bye. I would not be shocked if Wake opened 0-1.

I agree with Hurd pitching game 2. Skenes will pitch game one without question. Especially after watching Floyd’s shaky start. That curveball is a liability against a good hitting team. He did ok when he settled in but can’t hang pitches and fall behind in every count against a wake forest.

You pitch Skenes in the first game for one reason. You want him to pitch twice.

If you wait until the second game, you might be pitching Ty Floyd twice and get eliminated before you can get Skene's in again. You want Skenes pitching Saturday and then again on Wednesday.

Game 3 - Hurd/Coleman (pending Hurds use in game 2)

That is 100% the setup. The only additional option might be Cooper gets the start (if Hurd is used in game 1 or 2) and bridge the gap with all the lefties.

Don't pitch Skenes the entire tournament. Save him for his pro career.

I think it's pretty simple until you get to the "if necessary" game on Thursday. If LSU is in that one, it will be very tempting to throw Skenes and get into the championship series Sat/Sun/Mon. That may come down to whether it's LSU's 4th or 5th game. If 5th, you probably have to throw Skenes because there may not be anyone left. If 4th, you may hold him and hope he gets to pitch game 1 Saturday. Best case just win 3 games and make it easy!

Best Case:
Saturday - Skenes
Monday - Floyd/Hurd
Wednesday - Cooper/Coleman

Saturday - Skenes
Sunday - Floyd/Hurd

Loser's Bracket:
Saturday - Skenes
Monday - Floyd/Hurd
Tuesday - Cooper/Coleman
Wednesday - Herring/Ackenhausen/Guidry
Thursday - Skenes/Money

Saturday - Floyd
Sunday - Hurd
Monday - Cooper/Coleman

We should probably start second guessing and call for JJ's firing now, and then bitch about how he doesn't know what he's doing after they win it all.
Hopefully they'll win it the right way next yr.

The whole "save Skenes for Wake crowd" will be in for a rude awakening if LSU loses game 1 and we don't see them.
Exactly.

Wake winning their first game isn’t a given either. There’s no easy W’s in Omaha. If you pitch Skenes in the opener, he’s possibly available on short rest for a potential Thursday winner take all game to decide our bracket….or he’s fully rested for game 1 of the championship series. If you save Skenes for game 2, then he’s definitely not going to be available until the championship (and probably not until game 2)

With Wake Forest waiting for us in round 2, it’s tempting to consider using Skenes.

Don’t be so sure, Wake beat Alabama at home by 1 run in the first game. They will be playing a team as good or better at a neutral site with vastly different dimensions.

Did Wake get a bye into the second round?

While this is true, you are in the loser's bracket whether or not you lose game one or two. I know I am in a large minority, but starting Skenes in the second game (assuming WF wins its game - which is first) should be considered.

I'd stand in the very back corner like Henry Gardenhoser and pray they threw 4 straight balls
