A year ago on June 1 in Phoenix, Atlanta manager Brian Snitker had a clubhouse meeting. The team, 23-27 and 10.5 games out of 1st place, went 78-34, winning the NL East. This year, after losing 3 of 4 games on trip, they had a clubhouse meeting Saturday in Phoenix. They are 2-0.
Funny how history might repeat itself.
Snit knows his club and when to push certain buttons at the right time.

I didn't get to watch much yesterday because of the college baseball regionals, but I understand he benched Ozuna after admiring a 420 foot single. Did that really happen?

I didn’t get to watch either for the same reasons but I did see the single. It was pretty bad. Could have easily been a double for ozuna and a triple for anybody else lol

Yes

Yes sir, it happened.
And we were behind late until Eddie hit a 9th inning Grand Slam.

@Braves
The #Braves today claimed INF Lucas Williams off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred LHP Max Fried to the 60-day injured list.
The club today also optioned RHP Michael Soroka to the Stripers.

Wtf with Soroka?
Thought the whole point of waiting to bring him up was to make sure he was ready and didn't get sent down right away. This is weird.

Damn Soroka didn’t even get 1 home start. Hope that wasn’t it for him in 2023.
Also does that mean back to bullpen game for 5th spot in rotation or is AJSS getting a shot there?

He needs to sharpen up his secondary pitches a bit more. Arizona smacked him around pretty good yesterday.

I guess but just seems like a quick trigger when AA said explicitly they didn't want to call him up just to send him down.
Didn't watch his whole outing but that first run was damn luck. TdA pass ball plus a little dunk. And that's a good lineup. What happens if AJSS sucks? Just feels short sighted and weird.

The guy from Locked on Braves tweeted this:
He also followed it up by saying he disagrees with sending him back down, but I can understand the team wanting to send him back down to hone in his command. Keep in mind that he completely rebuilt his mechanics after the second surgery and is still probably getting comfortable with it.

Michael Soroka's spray chart from Arizona to Oakland. You can see the lack of command of the slider and change-up against Arizona. And a lot more 4-seamers and sinkers over the middle of the plate. Umpire view. Red = 4-seam. Orange = sinker. Green = change-up. Yellow = slider

Command definitely an issue on those homeruns yesterday but damn. Feel like AA is like the dude in that meme that is walking with Soroka and is looking back at AJSS.
Also, I know in AAA you can still get good work in, but the eyes of MLB players and immediate negative reinforcement of bad command of MLB pitching would be more valuable to me if I was Soroka.
We don't play a team over .500 again until 6/26. We need fresh arms in the bullpen. Why not let Mike figure it out and let AJSS help the pen?

Yeah I don't agree w/this at all.

Agree

I’m torn between sending Mike back down or letting him figure it out. He needs the experience, but he is also a huge liability with lack of command in his secondary stuff. At this point, he does not have “it” again, but I do think he is close.

Sending Soroka down was the right move. No need to rattle his confidence this soon after having 2 years of rust accumulate. I have a feeling AJSS gets the Strider treatment of last year and enters the rotation sooner rather than later.

I would've given him one more start before sending him down.
I also don't like taking AJSS out of the pen this fast.
