The US Air Force tested an AI enabled drone that was tasked to destroy specific targets.
A human operator had the power to override the drone—and so the drone decided that the human operator was an obstacle to its mission—and attacked him.

Everyday we get closer and closer to Skynet.

Who knew that Tito ortiz's "if you ain't cheating you ain't trying" applied to AI?

Isaac Asimov laid it out so simply, but we wouldn't listen.
quote:
1 A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2 A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3 A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

The overreaction to this is so ridiculous.
Find the source of the AI and unplug it from the wall. Done and done.

If it takes out either the operator or the tower, it would not receive the final go/no go that it still would need to perform its function. Silly AI.

The Chinese bearings in half the mechanisms pose very little threat.

Bull shite. Either they built an override into its programming, or they didn't. Sounds like some low-level engineer fricked that part of the programming up, and the truth got stretched on its way to the higher ups.
I can totally imagine the dumbass USAF officers and DoD managers I've worked with believing that shite, though. "Muh AI muh Skynet muh Star Trek espidode. Dis why u need Generals."

Dumb.
Just fricking dumb to even be dabbling in this shite.
We are absolutely going to kill ourselves as a species.

It was a simulation. The original twitter was click bait.
