human operator had the power to override the drone—and so the drone decided that the human operator was an obstacle to its mission—and attacked him.

And so it begins

Bull shite. Either they built an override into its programming, or they didn't. Sounds like some low-level engineer fricked that part of the programming up, and the truth got stretched on its way to the higher ups.

I can totally imagine the dumbass USAF officers and DoD managers I've worked with believing that shite, though. "Muh AI muh Skynet muh Star Trek espidode. Dis why u need Generals."
It was probably a shitty simulation in the first place and they used it to tell a good story.

Think along the lines of the covid simulation that was used to sell the world on it.

And I used to think that the the storylines in 1984 and the Terminator were exaggerated and preposterous.

It did its job. It "killed the threat". Humans are the threat

Find the source of the AI and unplug it from the wall. Done and done.

This is what I’m wondering. Will that be impossible? Always have a back door.

Musk said last mth that there have already been several circumstances where an AI "went off on its own & initiated an entirely different program". But, yea, unplugging it will work. So why is Musk so worried? Hate him or love him, he knows a lot more about AI's than anyone here. He's met with the past 5 POTUS to warn them & was ignored by all. So, ok, no big deal, right? He's said that "it's too late. Humans are just along for the ride, now".

I strongly suggest everyone be very kind to Siri and treat it like the super computer it is, kindness goes a long way with em.
