Let's create a summer movie list that we can all use as a guide this summer. I can think of a ton of summer movies, but I don't want to spoil the fun, so I'm going to start by listing one.

Criteria: List one movie that has a summer theme and give a brief explanation of why it's a great summer flick.

My pick:

White Water Summer - Coming of age movie about a teenager who goes on a summer camp adventure only to be pushed to his limits.

The Way Way Back - Summer at a water park, family drama, coming of age comedy and the great Sam Rockwell. Perfect summer movie.

1. Jaws (most obvious pick)
2. Dazed and Confused
3. The Sandlot
4. Summer School
5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original of course)
6. Caddyshack

Edit: Texas Chainsaw might seem like an out there choice, but outside of Jaws I couldn’t think of a better representation of summertime horror.

Summer School - Irreverent movie about the teacher who doesn't want to teach Summer School, and the kids who don't want to be there. Everyone wants to ditch, but then they realize they have to rely on each other to get through it all. Plus, young Courtney Thorne Smith at the beach isn't bad.

RV

It's gross, stupid, and absolutely hilarious. Robin Williams and Jeff Daniels killed it. Very quotable, too.

Let's go with a variety pack here:
Early Bill Murray in Meatballs. Bill plays the head counselor in a summer camp.

80s teen cheese in the movie Space Camp. Teens spend their summer at a Nasa promoted summer camp. During a shuttle engine test, a group of teens accidentally get shot off into outer space. Great young cast too: Tate Donovan, Kelly Preston, Lea Thompson, Joaquin Phoenix. Also Tom Skerritt and Kate Capshaw. And like any good 80s movie, it has a talking robot.

Horror: any of the Friday the 13th movies. Pick your favorite.

90s teen comedy: Eurotrip.

Killers of the Flower Moon should come out this summer huh? Also Nichols Piillegi wrote a screenplay about Vito Genovese and Frank Costello and for some unknown reason De Niro is playing both characters. Not sure how that is going to work. I thought it said this summer or early fall but I could be wrong on that.

ETA: disregard I misunderstood, I thought this was movies coming out this summer or close to it, not summer movies.

Dazed and Confused is my go to summer movie.
