Does anyone else just generally dislike the Mid-Atlantic region and its people (Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, D.C., eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey)? I've found that the culture is bland, the food is bland, the people are fairly rude and abrasive, and it is largely liberal and progressive. They are somewhat in no man's land being wedged between the South and New England states. It isn't for me.

Virginia is very conservative outside NOVA and Richmond. It is nothing like the ones above the Mason Dixon line. Most of PA is conservative also outside of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

If you want to live in a large city that’s conservative, go to Virginia Beach. Not New Orleans level on food, but they have good seafood there also.

PA anywhere west of Philly is good folk, I’ve spent a lot of time there for work. Blue collar towns that are dying due to steel industry falling back but overall they are good conservative people.

frick Philly though

The climate and geography are pretty great. Four distinct seasons and an hour or two from both the mountains and beach.

The stretch from Charlottesville, VA to Lancaster, PA is some of the most beautiful land in the country, in my opinion.

As far as the people go, I will say the vast majority of the DC/MD/VA region are transplants from other areas, so I blame the rest of the country.

Outside of these cities, PA is basically Alabama.

Is the reason I hate beaches. It doesn't really have a beach, it has a Navy base (THE Navy base, IMO.)

I'm sick of the carve outs for PA, NY, etc. "It's so conservative except for this or that metro area." Yeah, unfortunately, those metro areas rule the state outside of local LEOs.

The lower 10th of NY maybe is mid Atlantic, but the western half much more aligns with the midwest. Buffalo is an hour and a half from Ohio, meanwhile Albany to Boston is 2-1/2 hours.

I have always said NY is too big and needs to get split up between NYC/Long Island and the rest of the state.

NJ is definitely NE.

Eastern PA is both Mid-Atlantic and NE(Philly and it's suburbs are NE) . Western PA(where my family is from) is Midwestern/Appalachian.

NJ is a Mid-Atlantic state, which is in the NE U.S. (NY is the same). Did some of you fail geography or something?

I live in northern VA, and we love it here. The people are incredibly friendly and polite. DC is becoming a true foodie city, but I do miss my Louisiana food.

NOVA has all four seasons, great public education, proximity to mountains for camping, hiking and fly fishing, a ton of wineries and breweries, and proximity to DC for the fancy things like plays, museums, etc.
