We had two, one became an Olympian, and I think the other is a university professor.

The idea of asking my mom to FedEx my high school yearbook didn’t cross my mind for even one second in the past 20 years.

Then I read your post.

My class valedictorian (1982 Grace King): MD/PhD in medicine specializing in nephrology; she runs clinical trials and has been an instructor in medicine, lives in Birmingham, England; she is married to a similarly smart German guy who is also a researcher/professor there.

Salutatorian is also an MD/PhD but specializing in anesthesiology, perioperative medicine, and bioengineering; he is at The Mayo Clinic. He graduated from high school when he was 15 years old and had been taking classes at Tulane since he was 12.

Both incidentally are Asian (she-Chinese, he-Indian).

My wife was valedictorian of her small private school class (1985); she is a doctor and won the lottery by marrying me.

Class of '04 and we only had 60 kids in our class. She's a school Superintendent now.

Valedictorian hanged himself around 11 or 12 years after graduation.

The Salutatorian had a football scholarship to Cal (and a few other schools) but opted instead for West Point. He was an F-15 pilot until he retired. He is now making bank as some bullshite consultant, but his wife is fat so not everything is perfect.

Our’s went LSU on a full scholarship. It was her first time away from home and could not handle anxiety . She dropped out after a month and tried Nichols State but dropped out there also. She works on her dad’s shrimp boat.

Some newspapers are running articles on people who were valedictorians 20 years ago.

I'm surprised at the small sampling in this thread that have committed suicide - high expectations? or too much pressure to keep performing at such a high level?

We had four valedictorians in my graduating class in the mid-00s. One is cognitive scientist, one is an actuary, one's a VP at a regional bank, and one does accounting stuff.

Our salutatorian (who was smarter than all of the valedictorians) is an engineer at Google with some patents to his name.

Four of the five are married. Between those five (and their spouses), there are three children. It's truly a shame to me how little priority the best and brightest among us are giving to raising a family.
