Do you guys drink electrolytes or is that shite just a waste of money? Is there any benefit to drinking them right when you wake up?

Electrolytes are basically potassium and sodium. Have a banana instead.

I take a Liquid IV before going out in a really hot sun doing yard work. Sometimes after.

I use LMNT. One in my preworkout mix first thing In morning (4:30 AM) and one with last meal of the day (about 4:30 or 5:00 PM)

I drink BCAAs in the morning and will have a Gatorade zero packet in my water while running keto in order to get the electrolytes.

Not a waste of money at all imo but I also sweat quite a bit during workouts and hit the sauna afterwards. I’ll switch between liquid IV, Gatorade packets no sugar and pink Himalayan salt. I’ve noticed it helps with cramping, especially if you add a banana in the mix. As for the timing I’d say being well hydrated in the morning is pretty important since you wake up usually a little dehydrated. A tablespoon of pink himayalan in the morning will also help keep your morning routine pretty regular in my experience.

Not a waste. Most people take in too much salt and not enough of the other electrolytes.

You definitely need them if intermittent fasting.

Just two of those restaurant salt packets and a magnesium supplement is the cheapest way to go.

BPN makes a decent one that I use from time to time. I'll put a scoop in a 32 oz nalgene when I know I'm about to sweat a lot. LMNT is a good one too, but more expensive.

If you are sweating a lot, then they are very much needed in addition to a ton of water. Take it from someone who has experienced whole body muscle craps after a 2-3 hour run in 90+ degree weather and high humidity when just drinking water.

Sports drinks really don’t have that much in them. Liquid IV has little potassium and magnesium.

This is your daily requirement for all electrolytes. And have used it before for extended fasting, or heavy drinking. But could use it as needed also.

I make my own with 2L water
pink Himalayan salt, (sodium) 1/2 tsp
baking soda, (sodium) 1tsp
food grade epson salt (magnesium), 1/2tsp
no salt salt substitute (potassium) 1tsp

I usually do an LMNT before the gym. I find the extra sodium helps me feel better while working out on an empty stomach, which I tend to do.

Is it just placebo? Idk, but works for me

Eat a couple dates (more potassium than bananas), a couple pinches of Redmond's Real Salt or Pink Salt, and water.

Redmond's also makes the packets. 1st Phorm has good packets too.

Liquid IV is trash!

I've tried Liquid IV, Drip Drop, Onnit, and NUUN tablets. You can usually catch one of them on sale. I recently purchased Podium Nutrition's electrolytes, but haven't opened the container yet.

I think I like Liquid IV the best, but that might be due to their individual packets being larger.

I make my own electrolyte drink for post-runs:
- Kaged Amino Synergy (EAA)
- Vital Proteins Collagen
- Nutrabio Supercarb (carbs + electrolytes)
