She thinks parents instead should model acceptance of different body sizes, rather than urging kids to conform to a smaller ideal. "We shouldn't be changing their bodies because of bullying so they fit a mold that is acceptable by society," she says.

She's 100% wrong. Bullying encourages and reinforces social norms. Being obese is not only unhealthy for the afflicted, it's also incredibly expensive overall for society at large.

Probably about 80%

Other 20% is hormone optimization. If your thyroid ain’t working or testosterone levels are low. Will be difficult to lose weight

Studies have also confirmed what both women suspected all along: Diets usually do not result in long-term weight loss because food and exercise account for only some part of the puzzle.

The 'puzzle' is nothing complex, only 2 parts and all about caloric intake:

Part 1: You're intaking too many calories
Part 2: Your body is not burning calories fast enough

Fix parts 1 and 2, obesity solved!!

Science says that if you consistently eat less calories than you burn in a given day, you will lose weight.

TRUST THE SCIENCE, FATTIES!

However, most of them do not want to give up the foods (and drinks) that are the root cause to their problems, so their obesity persists no matter what pill/diet they have tried.

Like Ryan Fischer just said in a podcast: We are so accustomed to eating junk/fast food, that eating healthier is considered dieting.

You have to make a lifestyle change, not just cut calories and expect that to be a long term solution.

Since then, scientific understanding of obesity has transformed; doctors now consider it a disease driven by genetics, the brain and other organs, as well as by environmental or psychosocial factors

Both my parents and my sister are obese. My dad and sister have type 2 diabetes. All weigh over 275 lbs.

I’m 5’10 and 180.

A co-worker of mine has a picture of 1920s New Orleans mardi gras in her office. It's funny because no one in the picture of thousands looks to be stricken with this horrible genetic defect. Amazing really.

People who live directly next to Chemical Plants, because property is less desirable, are likely to be obese and get diseases. Strange how the people working inside the plant are less susceptible.

Works for me every time I need to lose 5-10 pounds.

You do have to work harder to keep your weight down as you age.

Unfortunately I dont think its just move more and diet better now. Granted those changes help, but with the crap our big agriculture and giant farms feed the cows, chicken and pork, we still have lots of inflammation.

In my opinion do your best to buy local produce from local farms that practice regenerative agriculture because the soil on big farms keep deteriorating, increased use of gmo's, glyphosates, seed oils (this was used as engine lubricant before being used in all our foods) all contribute to our problems. Plus we no longer eat organs such as liver and heart, and we don't drink unpasteurized milk anymore.

I wonder if these two mothers would mind keeping a food and exercise diary for the next 2 months and share the results for all to see.

Some people can have a thyroid issue that makes it harder to lose weight but at some point it comes down to math.

If you take in fewer calories than you expend you will lose weight. This is undeniable. It may take a while because the human body is very well adapted to retain weight as long as it can. This is because until a couple hundred years ago food availability was unpredictable. Lack of refrigeration, and poor farming practices resulted in food not being as available as today.

Eat less food, especially high carb and high sugar foods. Move more... beginning with short walks.

You will lose weight.

If it’s genetic then where all the fat fricks in 1935 to pass these genes on?
