Budget airline travel bag policies - time for a change in laws?

So usually I wind up on Spirit or similar once a year due to schedule issues or last minute changes. It happens, I prepare myself for it, I make the flight for <2 hours, it works.
In the last month I have been on multiple budget airlines. Ryanair, Spirit, Frontier, Europa. It was not pretty. I have seen multiple screaming and thrashing fights at the gates over baggage and was involved in a heated discussion myself.
It seems most of the fights are based over "does the baggage fit in the bin" and also "it fit on the way over here and they let me fly with it".
For example, my wife's Samsonite rollaboard, noted as within dimensions in the literature pre-purchase, was a few milimeters too tall (not affected by overstuffing) to fit in Ryanair's bin. Somehow that was fine on flight one, but a grevious error on flight two. This was solved by me getting a running start and slamming it into the bin (it worked barely).
But anybody who is on these airlines and perhaps watches youtube or such knows the airline gate fight is getting to be a problem. People are regularly sustaining assualt and battery. Both innocent passengers and airline employees.
Perhaps its time for a change in legislation that addresses such, and not just about punishments for starting a fight (which turns out idiots will do regardless of existing punishments like a no-fly list) but also changing business practices of budget airlines.
It's not sustainable.

When the airlines are giving commission to gate agents for every bag fee they have a direct incentive to frick you.

Maybe, just maybe, people need to know what they're in for and not act like savages when no special treatment is forthcoming.

carryon luggage should be discontinued
check your fricking bag and let the rest of us enjoy (or try to enjoy) the flight without your cargo clogging everything up

It boils down to this ^
If it doesn’t fit.. pay the $40 or whatever and quit bitching and screaming and assaulting passengers or flight staff . Follow the rules and be respectful and get to your destination without being arrested and blacklisted from flying
Should be common sense but people can’t handle perceived disrespect and think rules don’t apply to them

How about people stop being cheap and pay for a bag

checked bag fees generally are 30 bucks each way. Add the fee to the fare. If you don’t check a bag you still pay the fee
problem solved

Yeah, airlines are doing it wrong. They should check bags for free and charge for carryons. That would get everyone on and off the plane 5-10 minutes faster, which means that the plane can make more trips per day, which means that the airline makes more money.
Checked bag fees came to exist because, once upon a time, you had to wait in a line and go to a counter to check your bag, and airlines wanted to minimize people at check-in counters. But now, you can check your own bag at a kiosk and drop it yourself with minimal human interaction.

It’ll make things easier, but they’re not fitting in additional flights.

Jesus Christ, that's all we need is more legislation over stupid shite. Because we definitely more government in our lives. Maybe don't be cheap and stop flying shitty airlines.

One of the great things about the airport experience is seeing people that check bags over the amount of pounds and have all their shite laid out stuffing in other bags,(lol) instead of just paying the over poundage fee.

Checked baggage requires machinery and personnel which are ongoing costs. Carryon baggage simply requires a one time buildout of the bins.
Honestly I think they should remove the concept of carryons. Remove the bins, which will also open up the plane. I’m sure on new builds they can relocate vents and lights.
You can bring on a personal bag that fits under the seat. That’s it. Everything else is checked.

They should charge for over Bin carry ons and make checked bags free, it would make loading and unloading the plan faster.
