So long MTV News. I didn’t know it still existed, but Paramount Media put the final nail in its coffin today.

quote:

Layoffs will be hitting 25% of employees across the Showtime, MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks groups in the U.S. Tuesday, following months of internal deliberations about integration amid Showtime’s rebranding into Paramount+ With Showtime. Additionally, MTV News — which was significantly affected by layoffs more than five years ago — will be shutting down. Other units, most of which are operations, will be shuttered as well.

I would’ve guessed MTVN had shut down about 10-15 years ago.

it peaked on April 8, 1994 when they covered the Kurt Cobain death. All downhill from there

Wow. Did like watching it back in the day when MTV actually was a decent network to watch.

In retrospect this seems different. Since it seems likely they were fed misinformation (by Courtney) about Cobain being depressed. Rather than possibly murdered since he was going to divorce her.

I still have vivid memories of Kurt Loder breaking in and telling me about Cobain's death. Kurt Loder was great. Tabitha Soren was ok too.

MTV mostly became engulfed in the coastal progressive shift over the last 15 years.

She was the Norm McDonald of MTV in that every time the subject of Michael Jackson came up, she always mentioned that he was a child molester.

Or 20 years ago when they quit playing music videos.
