If available...would you sign Brook Lopez for 3yr/$45M? Just wondering.

No, not when Ayton is in the same conversation.

- Younger
- Willie knows him
- Distressed Assets is where we live

Not to mention you arent getting Brook Lopez for 15M a year.

Understanding the risks, i'd do it...unless the net fallout was losing 1 of Herb/Trey due to financial reasons.

If we can keep those 2 and make it happen, I'm taking the risk on the old guy.

Not sure the 3/$45 is realistic but given the hypothetical, Ayton would be double the price and you have to give back assets to get him.

Lopez at 3/$45 or even all the way up to 3/$54 IMO is a much better get as a free agent than $32mil of Ayton and giving up assets to get him.

Agreed on the $15M, which is why I threw in the 3 yrs. part. I want NO part of Ayton...jmo

1) Lopez is 35. He is going to a team more than likely that is established and title contender. Ayton is 24 and would fit into our current team age Loop. (Not to mention with playoff experience)

2) We have to take off the homer glasses and understand that no FA's willingly come here. Were at best a 3rd destination city so you have to trade for distressed assets.

3) The money situation dictates you will have to go all in this year as next year you have potential outs to blow up the team if Zion and BI fail to again play more than 10 games together.

4) I want to reiterate from Lopez's perspective there is ZERO reason why he would want to come here considering the value folks place on him.

But that's a different question than the hypothetical of the OP

So you'd take Ayton over Trey? We have to do some serious financial adjustments to make room for a Trey extension. And if we have 3 dudes making well over $30-35mil, there simply will be no way to keep Trey on the roster.

We'd definitely have to overpay, relatively speaking, to get his attention.

PS: "Make him an offer he can't refuse" (See Part 2 below)...Also, agree upfront, to sign Robin for the minimum & tell em' when we're up 10 in final minute of game 7 vs Celtics...we'll put Robin in to finish Championship game ON the court WITH Brook. Have 2 brothers EVER been on the court together to win the NBA title?... I DON'T THINK SO !!!

PS Part 2: Does Brook own a horse that he really loves...I'm a desperate man...with a desperate plan !!

Yes, but he'll get more than that from someone.

Here's a picture with Ayton on the Team and JV / Larry / Kira not (Anything for either player would require removal of JV and Larry)

You sign EJ to a real contract and bring over Karlo. That should more than likely take you to the Tax (Maybe less as this is still counting Garrett Temples salary).

By 2025 Offseason you have the ability to make quite a few decisions to drastically change the team.

The only decision before this you are forced to make is in the 2024 offseason Herb is technically a UFA. So framing an extension where its not front loaded might be the play here.

By 2025 you have the ability to:

Extend Trey Murphy to be a potential MAX (dependant on progression path)

Extend BI (or have traded him at the deadline for a massive expiring)

Trade CJ at the deadline (if things are going south as a massive expiring)

Extend Ayton if things are working out (or again trade him at the deadline LOL)

In reality if we are willing to tippy toes in the tax once to just maximize these next two years, Gayles cheap arse can recoup her money if she busts on the bet.

Not sure why you’re so fixated on Ayton, OP started a thread about hypothetically signing Lopez.

A shot blocking center that can defend the paint, rebound and hit threes would be so perfect. There’s not alot of of guys with that skill set but I would love to have Lopez on that contract.

There’s been way too many playoff series where Ayton seems to be over matched and disappears.

I’d sign him absolutely. He is a good shooter, which is necessary for modern big.

Ayton is a headcase. We don’t need another

Have no idea why your post got downvoted twice, bc the entire post was valid and accurate.

To Dinky’s original question.

I think I would do that. He probably has 2 decent years left in him and by the 3rd year, he would be an expiring and potentially moveable. Fit would be cleaner over Jonas. Jonas better post player, but Brook can also score from the post and mid range. Obviously he can shoot threes and protect the rim better as well.

It was a hypothetical question. He makes $13M now and he’s 4 years older from when he signed his original deal.

I’m not sure many teams would be lining up to give him a 3 year deal, hence New Orleans offering him 3 years and 45 mil vs another team offering him 1 year, 18 mil, might actually give us a shot.

Still not sure where Ayton fits into any of this. Perhaps make a different thread on that.

Yea, Ayton wasn't part of this thread, but if he was, I would point out that he's currently being outplayed by and losing minutes to Jock Landale in the biggest games of the Suns' season.

Exactly...thought I made myself clear that the 3-yr part was added to make the $15M/yr part more enticing for Lopez. Be assured, Dinky is NOT "relenting" on the 3-yr/$45M offer...sounds like a legit offer.

I'd also like to point out that they just signed Ayton until 2026. They clearly want to keep him.

If we're doing fantasyland scenarios where ever center is available, give me JJJ over Ayton every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

With Lopez, I worry that he loses a step real soon and the rim protection you're hoping for is gone. Or his 3pt% goes back down to his career average or less and you aren't getting anything you hoped for. I wouldn't want anything over a year and he isn't coming here on a one year deal.

The Pels do not have any horrible contracts so taking a risk on an ~$15 million/year guy is not too crazy. I would like to think you could find someone cheaper.
