Domilise's is over rated

Change my mind. Radosta's, Short Stop and even Parran's runs circles around Dom's

I never got the appeal of the place.

True, but still a solid spot

While I agree Domilise’s is a touch overrated, you lost me at Short Stop. Very bottom tier.

Parkway Bakery pretty solid too.
DiMartino’s on the Westbank still has the best muffeletta.
And don’t sleep on Bahn Mi Boys right across street from Short Stop

Parkway is WAY too proud of their product with the prices they charge for what you get.
I've eaten at Domilise's a few times and actually prefer both Frankie & Johnny's on Arabella St. or Parasol----especially for their roast beef.
And nobody's mentioned Rocky & Carlos from "Da Parish". Their po-boys are all solid and priced reasonable for the amount of food you get.
I love their Half & Half oyster/shrimp po-boy. They are loaded with excellently cooked seafood. The wife usually gets their Veal Cutlet po-boy.

John and Mary’s Food Store on Orleans has the best (and cheapest) shrimp po-boy. Lots of well seasoned shrimp for a good price. Ya just can’t go at night time.

Short stop is absolute trash. It boggles the mind how popular it is.

Half the popular po boy places are mid
It’s somehow an over saturated market but it’s still ripe for shops that actually make good pho boys

Frady’s in the Bywater for roast beef.

I used to eat there all the time in the 1970s. I have been there maybe twice in the past 20 years. I love the atmosphere of the old fashioned New Orleans joints and this is a perfect example of one.

I went there once, after having several friends rave about how good it was.
It was so bad, I was embarrassed for them.

This is the main appeal. I always get either shrimp or shrimp/oyster and if I remember to tell them to not put that red sauce on it, its pretty good. Not the best though.

It's nostalgic for me. My great grandmother and Ms. Dot Domilise were best friend. So when I was a kid every trip we made to New Orleans involved a stop at Domilise's. Back then Nunu would bring me bowls of meatballs and they would count how many I could eat. Fond memories.
I don't think it's over rated. It a classic New Orleans sandwich shop. But I also don't think it's on the level of R&O's or Parkway. I like it better than Guy's though, except for the roast beef.

Guy's shrimp poboy > Domilises
I'll go to either, though, as I like that you can have a beer with it at Domilises.

Agreed.
You too can get a roast beef with spicy mustard for approx. $82.

Last weekend the wife and I were heading back from visiting relatives on the north shore and stopped in Madisonville and ate at Morton's. I was surprised to see their shrimp and oyster po-boy prices were the same and at under $14 before tax.
They were both in the 14-15" range and well prepared.
About 4 months ago we stopped at R & O in Bucktown and they had a notice on the menu that they once again had oysters and I inquired about the cost of a po-boy and was told $24. I ordered the shrimp at several dollars cheaper.
As far as who has the best prices in the N.O. area, I'm not sure since the wife and I really don't eat out very often and I usually prepare our meals daily. I'm retired and love to cook and she's still not retirement age.

It has just gotten hyped up, because it has been around a long time. It's a good sandwich, but I can get that at tons of places. I prefer Mahony's over most places mentioned in this thread.

Maybe. I haven't had a shrimp poboy from Guys in years. If I go there I get the RB. I happen to like the sloppiness of Dom's with the ketchup and hot sauce. Which I think a lot of people don't.
