Hard as I’ve tried, I’ve never been able to get a baby wild rabbit to make it. Best of luck to you.
They usually seem fine for a while, then just unexpectedly fall over dead while you're looking at them.

yes one day they are alive and well and the next day drop dead. My dog used to sniff out the dens all the time requiring a baby rabbit rescue mission

at least he got to taste a strawberry before he died, which would not have happened had you not taken him home

Good on you for trying.
A little black spot on my phone made me read this as “frying”. Which I thought was a fitting thing to do.
OP, came here late to say I know a dozen or so folks that have tried to keep a wild cottontail (including my kids on 2 different occasions) and am not sure if any were successful.

It's EXTREMELY hard to keep a wild rabbit alive.

How old you think it was? I wonder if its something similar to calves and their need for colostrum.

I remember when I first brought home my bunny, there were similar uncertainties. It took time to figure out the best diet and living conditions.

Also shitting everywhere.
That’s what rabbits do. There is a reason why rabbit cages are raised and have a mesh flooring.

I had a female wild cottontail that I bought from a guy who raised them to train Beagles. It was a better pet than the domestic rabbit I had before. It was very tame and gentle. Would let you hold it as long as you wanted. I’m pretty sure an owl got it one night unfortunately.

First post bump of an old thread.
Is this some AI shite or something? To what purpose? Or is it just a rabbit lover driven to create an account to make this first post?

We raised rabbits for years when I was growing up. We'd also occasionally trap wild rabbits. We decided to keep one buck that we trapped. It lived for several years, and was one of the best buck rabbits we ever had. It crossed with a California White resulted in some good eating rabbit.
