Southwest gives a free extra seat for fat people per their “customer of size” policy. My initial reaction was anger, but honestly I’d rather them take up 1.5 of their own seats than to cross over into mine.

Hypothetically, the plane you are in is going down mid-flight unless it drops 350 lbs. Does the crew and riders agree to sacrifice one fatty or two non-fatties?

Would be pretty discriminatory towards men, who tend to be bigger and heavier in general.

I'd much rather pay a higher price for a ticket to have actual space on an airplane instead of being crammed in like sardines. Give me less seats on a flight for more space between seats (side to side AND front to back).

anything over 300 lbs should absolutely be a premium fee charged by the pound at grocery store price levels for beef by the pound.

Why 300 pounds? We gonna pretend like for most people anything over 200 pounds isn't overweight?

Now we're talking.

If the seat in front of you can't recline because it hits your knees, you have to pay for first class.

Just measure by girth instead of weight, have adjustable seats that allow only your width, unless you want to pay more.

200lb at 5' is going to take up more than 200lb at 6'.

The best way to address this is to refer to people by their weight + "pounder."

For example, if a person weighs 300 pounds, call them a 300 pounder.

yep, they should make you stand in a template like the one the used to use to see if your bag would fit in the overhead, if you can't fit there should be an upcharge

We need to handle babies on flights too.

Babies fly free, but for every minute that child spends crying, it gets charged $100.

Even if fat people pay more to get on the plane, you still have to deal with them.

If you have to fly, you have to fly, not sure if an extra $100 will deter many people.

So the airline gets richer, and you still deal with fats.

We should be mad at airlines for cramming us in like sardines with smaller seats and removing routes rather than fat people for existing.

It’d be easier to require people over a certain weight to purchase two adjacent seats. Didn’t purchase two and can’t fit? You can catch the next available flight when two are open.

I shouldn’t be crowded in my seat bc a bariatric person can’t fit in theirs.

Last time I flew first class I sat by this lady that was legit 350-400 lbs. we had plenty of room so I couldn’t be mad

I thought it was a joke when the flight attendant brought her a seat belt extender bc she was too big to fit in a normal one

At least she was courteous enough to upgrade because of her size but damn getting a seat belt extender must be embarrassing

True story.

Lets be honest, it's not just over 300 lbers that struggle with space on an airplane. Tall folks, people that aren't "built" svelte, etc. Perfectly healthy people.

Like I said earlier, I would happily pay more for my ticket if they cut out some seats on a plane to give EVERYONE more room.

- Put actual space between seats so a heavier person "spilling out" isn't even an issue.

- Move back seat rows so there is more leg room for taller folks (which is like everyone taller than 5'5" to be honest).

- Make flying a luxury experience again. People complain about folks wearing PJs to fly, that's just them matching the experience at this point.
