Real User Experience by Renting on Electric Car

So I am in Vegas for a few days this week, when I booked a rental car the cheapest option was an electric car, a Polestar 2.
Hertz gives it to me at 70%. I drive to my hotel and through the city to get a feel of the city. I also drive to Hoover Dam and back. I am down to 37%. I am currently charging it at .48 a kWH. On my way to Hoover Dam, I saw a large solar farm, and I saw turbines spinning thousands of Megawatts of power of To get it to 90%, it is going to take over 30 minutes at 450v charging to get it to 90%.
It also cost me 22.50 to charge. My range is now 240.
My Odyssey on a full tank of gas will get me close to 500-600 miles of range of course that is 20 gallons of gas.

Isn’t it comforting to know all manufacturers in America are going fully electric soon.
Thanks ev cultist.

You’ve just stated what everyone already knows.
EVs are cool technology but they are not yet practical and the infrastructure is not set up for it yet.
They are the future along with engines. Why people try to make you think engines will vanish is beyond me.

I rented a Tesla in Saint Louis and there was only a few places that had fast chargers and were not near where I was staying.
Liked the car but if I can’t roll down the street when renting one of these its a waste of time.

You chose a shitty electric vehicle. Should have went with a tesla

An EV for a rental is a terrible idea unless there’s a supercharger at your hotel and you have limited driving needs.
ETA and Polestars are fricking trash.

There wasn't a place to charge it overnight?
Seems like, if you are somewhere that doesn't require a lot of long distance driving and has infrastructure for charging, it might be practical to rent.
But for somewhere that the distances are measured in hundreds of miles? And getting caught hundreds of miles from a charging station is a real issue?
Yeah...give me dinosaur juice. EV aren't practical in those situations

dont forget you will get a huge charge to your credit card if you dont bring it back with a full charge as well.
electric cars cost 3 times what a regular car costs to purchase, as well as for fuel cost per dollar spent, plus when you battery goes bad, and it 100% will in a few years, it costs $15k-$20k for another battery plus labor to completely disasseble and reassemble the car to replace it.

The utility of a car is being able to drive where you want, when you want, on the time schedule you want, with relative ease and efficiency. The biggest issue I have with electric cars, at this point in time, is they can't deliver that baseline functionality. This is analogous to having a smart phone that can't make phone calls.

You planned poorly. I'm pro EV and would have told you not to rent one to drive from Vegas to the dam

This is called liberty.

Cars will be what only the elite can obtain in a socialist world.

They aren't a comparable replacement for gas burners in many regards at this point. You'll have them crammed down your throat though because the Earth is on fire brother.

EVs are for city dwellers. They serve that purpose and that purpose only.
