I'm convinced this guy is not really trans. He is/was an actor and I think he's just taking advantage of the zeitgeist and making money off of this character he's created. As far as I know, he's not on hormones, planning any surgeries (i know he altered his face, but I think that's just cosmetic), and doesn't really get political.
