Who here is a historian of Ukrainian history and ethnic groups? The history of the Crimean peninsula alone is enough to make me back off from claiming to know much about what the people of Ukraine and its various regions want, other than to not be pawns in the power struggles of the elite.
Well, that would sound good and all were it not for real blood, guts, mutilations and worse, and immeasurable pain involved in the suffering of a people who were no real threat to their neighbors, and are going through it all just to satisfy the whim and expansionist aims of a delusional, pint-sized Mongol-Bolshevik.
Not his main reference Lenin, who was an appeaser and weak, but Trotsky, who once led the Red Army would be so disappointed in him that he's been bogged down like this to the point that he's actually had to come up with another postured "threat" of positioning tactical nuclear weapons strategically because he can't hack it conventionally.
Remember his "doomsday submarine?" What ever happened to that empty threat? Is it still in drydock?

Some of you people are nuts.
Or everyone else except you realizes Gaucho is a troll. I do mean everyone.

Smart move.
Fewer electronics to protect.
Fewer electronics to protect.

Roger it’s a proxy war. Do you understand what proxy means?

I actually thought that might be sarcasm, but I don't live on here enough to know Gaucho.

Defending their homeland in another nation that was no threat to them?
Wow! That scores a perfect 10 in mental gymnastics!
Someone believes the msn propaganda bullshite.
Bah, bah, bah, Russia, Russia, Russia!
The truth shall set you free sheep.
And, before some ignoramus calls me a commie or a putin lover, do some research.

Son, I educated you bitches on the OT thread months ago regarding this proxy war.
Of course the ladies on the OT called it "Putin propaganda."

I'm thoroughly embarrassed to have fallen for the bullshite in the first 6 weeks of the war. Once they announced the $30 billion in aid, I was out. frick everyone involved in this proxy war, especially Zelensky.

They cost less than a T90. so if your conscript crew is going to abandon a tank it might as well be a T55 that uses up a gatm not a T90.

I doubt many of them will run much less be combat ready.
You have no idea and couldn't possibly know. Your opinion on this is of no value, same as mine.

You don’t even look up the credentials of the writer? Come on, man!
The article is based on reports and videos coming from OSINT. This can be tricky because old footage has surfaced from time to time but usually gets sussed out fairly quickly. The corroborating evidence for the T-54/55s being brought online is Russian state TV openly discussing it. Solovyov, for example, discussed it on his morning show either yesterday or the day before.
As of yesterday morning, Oryx had documented via photographic or videographic evidence roughly 1900 Russian tanks destroyed, abandoned, or captured. IIRC the destroyed number was about 1,200. You can go to the site and each tank is identified by type if possible and the picture(s) and video(s) are available for you to peruse. Given the evidentiary bar they use the number of Russian tanks either combat ineffective or captured is very likely to be over 2,000. If you look at the video and stills from engagements like the Battle of Vuhledar where you could see over 30 dead tanks in one picture and the infamous crossroads where tank after tank ran into the minefield the numbers are not particularly surprising. Russian large equipment losses have been fairly well documented and logically the Oryx numbers should be on the low side.

super old tanks don't require precision bearings and foreign restricted electronics to get operational.
They don't really have to be that good in combat. Russia is just going to use them to shell apartment buildings.

One would think we'd send our stockpile of 70yr old military equipment over for Ukraine to use, before sending them shite that is 40 years old or newer.
We don’t stockpile 70 year old tanks. The ones that haven’t been scrapped or used as range targets are either in a museum or sitting in front of a VFW post.

The Ukrainians will start their counter offensive soon when the mud dries.
They will be trained and well equipped, yet not experienced. The Russians cannot convert older tanks to acceptable levels nor build new ones fast enough because if sanctions.
I would imagine that they see the approximately 250 T55s as cheap defensive tank destroyers. They are thin skinned, poorly sensored, and under gunned. They are not maneuverable enough to escape casualties like true WW2 American tank destroyers were. Also the concept was based upon faulty assessments.
This stop gap measure will be hard on the crew even if marginally successful. I think they’re just going to get about a thousand poor Russians killed with no success.

T-54/T-55s have a 100mm rifled barrel. No other tank or artillery in use by Russia uses that size munition so they have an ample supply of ammunition. Read some reports that they plan on using it for indirect fire.
Posted on 3/26/23 at 5:57 pm to tigeraddict
but what is the quality of that ammunition? Has it been maintained over the last 50 years or just rusting in a bunker?
Posted on 3/26/23 at 5:59 pm to RogerTheShrubber
How many of the anti-globalists have signed up to fight with Russia?
I think it's a fair question to ask as they ask the OTers if they signed up to fight for Ukraine all the time...
