I decided, after one horrible first day, to let no one make me unhappy (at work). I smiled all day, and always was "great!". After about 2 weeks it wasn't acting, it was real. Made some really mean, negative people want to explode.

I retire in June of 2029.

Sometimes when I’m having a frustrating day I look at Zillow homes in the town I plan on retiring to.

This helps.

Learned to say no. Say no to stupid shite at work, say no to my wife and say no to my kids when they keep pressing the line.

Also, I am indifferent to just about everything. It’s nice not giving a shite about too much.

I’m thinking about growing my hair out. Like 1970s rock star length.

I figure at 38, I only have a few years left to attempt this.

I am currently having an oh shite wtf how did I get so old crisis. Reviewing, critiquing and analyzing my entire life, including everything I’ve ever said or done that was embarrassing, cringeworthy, or just wrong in some way. Times when I was overconfident, or times when I was insecure, times of self loathing, etc etc etc ad nauseum, ad infinitum.

I’ve decided to compete in a Half Ironman as my mid-life crisis. I’m exercising more than ever. It helps my self confidence and got me on a ritual. Also, I’ve started accomplishing tasks around the house/doing my own car repair a lot more and doing a lot less wasting time on my computer. Checking off boxes is a good way to feel a sense of accomplishment.

I figured out a while ago personal happiness would never be filled by professional success. I always kept thinking "when I get that next promotion/pay raise/title" I'll be happy. Yet all the promotions and raises never worked. So I compartmentalized those two parts of my life and have been much happier.

I decided to retire from the military as an O5 rather than get promoted to O6 and do 3-5 more years. I couldn't take the bullshite anymore. I am 1,000 times happier now.

Let's say, hypothetically, a friend of mine has gotten a ticket.

Grodex leather acorn shaped heavy bag and splurged on a pair of Winning gloves. Has changed my whole perspective on life as I can take out my daily frustrations of dealing with idiots on the bag, and not needing to self medicate on alcohol like my blur in my 20's, early 30's. Highly recommended for a baw by a baw.

Doesn't work that way anymore, at least at a professional agency. My wife got a ticket on Tuesday from a neighboring agency where the Assistant Chief is a friend of mine. I would never make that call.
