You can talk your head off here but all of us have seen you worshipping at the Trump alter for years and never ever deviating from the party line to think for yourself.
Just say you can't come up with an argument. You have to characterize those that disagree with you as "worshippers of Trump". It very strongly parallels with how Democrats think.

I'm not a Republican. I'm more conservative than you and Trump and DeSantis
You certainly aren't more to the right than I am. I've read your opinions on here. You and I aren't of the same political philosophy. You are a 100% a party loyalist.
But, you are right that Trump is not extremely conservative. I wish he was more conservative. Desantis is probably more conservative in many ways. But, there are more important things in play here, IMO.
quote:
The reality is this, we're just buying time. Ron is a better choice for that because (a) he's the more substantive candidate and more likely to complete some of the things he starts and (b) he can sell the ideology to the public far better than Trump, perhaps enough to win.
You haven't noticed (I know because you keep trying to frame my position differently), but I'm not trying to convince you to not vote for Desantis or that you MUST vote for Trump.
The only thing I've done in this thread was try and explain why what Desantis said was a mistake and why Trump's voters will be extremely turned off by them. You've rejected it because it's inconvenient.

Trump sycophants:
"Here's DeSantis with a picture of underage girls"
"DeSantis wife is a pig"
"DeSantis is a GOPe Cuck"
"We're going to use the courts to keep DeSantis from running based on trumped up "ethics" complaints"
Also Trump sycophants:
"Why won't DeSantis save Trump!!!! "

Barbs and insults are fine, but I don't deal with patently dishonest people. I genuinely don't mind aggressive/emotional banter from you even when insulting. But being intentionally and knowingly dishonest is an indicator of poor character and I'm not interested in it.

Interesting.
Trump condemned DeSantis for taking a conservative stance on entitlements. The Trump sycophants also attacked DeSantis for his conservative stance. What say you?

You keep saying this, likely not understanding that the folks you're talking to were registered NPA while you were still in your MAGA 2016 Republican diapers.

And that is great stuff. Need to hear how he would roll out his attack on DC
What did Trump do in his 4 years?
Did he cut the budget of the letter agencies? No, he increased them by high single digits yearly.
Did he get rid of the Patriotic Act? No
Did he try and stop CISA 2018? No. Did he sign it? Yes.
Trump is a swamp creature himself. Those are the facts at hand.
Trump has already had 4 years, I am all for giving someone else a try.

This isn't true for a not insignificant portion of Trump Loyalists. 20%, according to GumboBro, and it's likely higher than that
Then he's dead in the water? Is that what you are saying? Mathmatically, his only chance is getting the 20% you referenced to vote for him in the general.
quote:
That's how we win a general election
Desantis is going to replace 20% of Trump's voters with independents? That's the plan? Have you done that math?
quote:
Be more specific. What did he say that has you riled? Careful, though, you're about to prove my point in a big way.
I don't think I'm "riled". In fact, I'd still vote for Desantis in the general as we sit. But, the weaponization of the government by Democrats is a huge issue. Choosing to go after Trump (clearly for political purposes) in that moment made me really question his understanding/agreement that we are currently under attack by Democrats.
In addition, it was a tactic we've seen used by the left for 6 years. Stormy Daniels? Seriously? He's using Stormy Daniels? Is that who Desantis is? That's his line of attack on Trump? It really makes me wonder who is advising him behind the scenes.

Florida's legislative session is ending soon and he will jump in afterwards. Everyone knew this, except you apparently. So be a man and quit your whining.
I just don’t care. Don’t confuse apathy for not knowing.
And where am I whining about anything here? You’re trying to put me on the defensive because you’re the one who is fragile.
Work on that more.

Clearly DeSantis is being counseled by the mega donors and the Paul Ryans
This is the concern. If it's true, I probably won't vote for Desantis.

You are using tat rhetoric because you believe it’s effective.
You can't read minds; I use it because I believe it's accurate. There are people who voted for Trump and there's the "ride or die" crowd, and in conversations it's frequently useful to talk about them separately. That requires some sort of shorthand. I've used "Trump loyalists" as well, but the more strident the CUCKETY CUCK CUCK CHAIR CUCK CUCK!!!!! crowed gets, "cult" appears to be the more accurate term.
quote:
You whine about it
Aside from the attempt at appeal to ridicule, where did I do that? I've always talked about how a certain portion of Trump voters are just lost if DeSantis wins the primary. Yep, it's reality.
Because they're in a cult.

He may be, and that's unfortunate.

No.

He doesn't need to. Starting out by not convincing record numbers of people to vote against him would be good.

Most "limited government conservatives" won't pull the lever for Trump in the primary. He has given us nothing. Zero.
The fact that you don't see that means you are not conservative.

These are the same people who've been bitching for weeks that DeSantis was "hiding". He makes one back-handed comment and you see the results for yourself.

It goes both ways, bud. There’s no other way to interpret your remarks there than prevalently biased against one “side” and I can’t imagine that’s how you want to come across.

I used to think the Dems were ridiculous calling MAGA a cult. I thought it was just people passionate about changing the status quo. But after 2 years of him being out of office, the obsession keeps getting weirder and weirder.
If you're obsessed with an idea, great. But a lot of you seem obsessed with the person, and that's fricking weird.

Which is what Trump has been hoping for with all of his attacks. His base of total loons eats it up, but will lash out the instant someone fights back.
Personally, I think Desantis shouldn't ever address Trump again. At all.
Just say what you would do, and what you would do differently than Biden.

Here's the deal though, if you actually look at the threats there are very few DeSantis people saying that and plenty of Trump people saying that.
People like moneyg are in this thread going "oh well if he's really doing the work of the deep state I can't support him" as though that's a valid thing. They're just trying to develop some justifiable narrative why they'll take their ball and go home.
Sure, that's biased, but we've seen it before. We saw chief Trump guy JJ advocate for voting against the Senate candidates in GA.
I do think many, many Trump people, including folks like moneyg, might come around. There might be some initial knee-jerk rejection, but *most* of them will get over it in time to vote. The question is what's that number of those who won't and is it big enough to swing the thing? Even 10% would probably do it.
