From what I’ve watched so far it’s not that bad.

Nobody needs sports center in this day and time. Been getting sports highlights and updates on my phone for over 20 years. Also, unless you are a college fottbal/basketball fan, no need to watch ESPN. Well, maybe if you like corn hole or slam ball.

This is the real truth. It’s not even the social commentary for many people. It’s partly that the production value is terrible. It’s partly that all shows take up the same sporting headlines. It’s partly that there are YouTube sites out there with far superior sporting analysis and production.

ESPN’s problem is that they have become more and more irrelevant the easier information dissemination becomes.

I get my sports news and highlights from Reddit. Watching a whole SC segment is a waste of time when I can easily filter what I need.

Sounds like a shitty business plan took its toll, 12 years and they still haven't figured it out. Turns out when you hold the consumer hostage, the consumer finds something else to watch.

espn loses a lot of money

If it wasn't owned by disney, they would be down to 1 channel, and strongman reruns all day.

The Mouse has been tired of writing multi million dollar checks to cover espn losses.

Seems like ESPN has too many employees. The network doesn’t need to have commentators for corn hole or professional bowling. They hire too many sports personalities. No one has time to watch ATH and PTI. Definitely needs to cut production costs and simplify their programming.

I don’t need 14 opinions on “can the Lakers win a title without LeBron ? “

How about I think about the answer myself if I really give a crap. Too many opinions on topics that get beaten into the ground. Waste of time !

ESPN was great when it had Aussie Rules football and Bobby Czyz fights.

Got his arse whipped by some Canadian dude(Lalonde??) then he(Lalonde) got whipped by Leonard.

ESPN had college baseball, Aussie Rules, more boxing nights, good sports centers, no talk show crap, no X-games, no cornhole, less bowling, less commentary on the sportscenters, zero women's sports except maybe the WBB finals and/or semis. Oh and I think they more pro pool playing tourneys. Some of those dudes were unreal and the women were pretty nice to watch.

would say I'd be pulling for Rinaldi to get the axe, but thankfully that Debbie Downer took his "let's ruin college football Saturday mornings for everyone" schtick to another network.

I still can't believe Fox had a great alternative pregame show that stuck to game previews and analysis and got good ratings.... Only to go and get the 2 worst things about GameDay, Rinaldi and that fat frick Bear guy.

There's no way any metrics they studied showed those 2 were ratings grabbers.

As part of a corporate restructuring, parent Disney is slashing 7,000 jobs and $5.5 billion in costs.

Are salaries the only costs being cut or does this include production costs like studios and equipment. Because if it’s only salaries that’s an average salary of ~$786,000

I hate the new business model. They have bastardized sports into “sports entertainment/hot takes” and set it to the 24 hour news cycle.

Formula:
1) Random thing happens (athlete tweets),
2) Hot Take heel has hot take from corporate,
3) Remaining people debate hot take for day and a half.
4) Rinse and repeat.

It’s almost wrestling for sports fans at this point.

Good question. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more games are broadcast remotely (not on location) in the future.

It was until they started following the Gameday model of Sob stories and non-football fluff pieces. They still aren’t nearly as bad, but if they start adding fitness trainers, on camera betting personalities, over the top bro’s like Macafee, and dice deeper into the Rinaldi tear jerkers I’m going to have to find a new pregame.
