Good question. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more games are broadcast remotely (not on location) in the future.
Tee hat would suck for the broadcasters wouldn’t it?

ESPN and MLB both made the same huge mistake. When twitter and youtube became a popular thing, they tried to get out front of a problem that they didn't even have. They assumed that the younger generation would get their highlights from the internet on their phones and no one would watch an hour of highlight shows.
What they failed to realize was that waking up or going to sleep and having highlights on was the daily routine for tons of people. Baseball Tonight was incredible. I got see the web gems, home runs, standings, who was hot and who was pitching well while I was going to sleep. SC would show all the highlights of ever game in NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL and every top 25 matchup in NCAAB and CFB. In 1 hours you got the day in sports, standings, major story lines, etc. without having to go look at it.
That is what people want back. The slow burn, on in the background, boring but informative sports day to go to sleep too or wake up too. Too bad that doesn't exist anymore.

As a company they've seemed to go all in on the NBA (which is a losing proposition) and by extension the the WNBA( which no one watches)
They've also let their talking heads basically destroy their only big money maker in college sports with their "it's basically slavery" bullshite.
That plus telling half the population they're racist terrible people 24/7 is a great way to lose your viewership.
I actually like espn plus because it let's me watch the stuff I actually want to.
The over the air channels most of the time show a lesser quality of games especially college sports wise
I was looking for a game to watch and ESPN 2 had a regular season game between temple and usf in girls basketball.
They just need to be better at programming

No one could say it better. Sportscenter was a part of my upbringing and the personalities were great even Keith Olberman which is hard for me to say. He and Dan Patrick were for real. Charley Steiner(Rip) laughing at Carl Lewis will forever be etched in my memory.
Just saw Charley Steiner on the Rich Eisen show. He ain't dead; he's now the Dodgers PBP guy.

I wish they would bring back in some form of Sportscentury, Up Close, Beg Borrow And Deal, NFL's Greatest Games, Stump The Schwab.

I would say I'd be pulling for Rinaldi to get the axe, but thankfully that Debbie Downer took his "let's ruin college football Saturday mornings for everyone" schtick to another network.

If this was 25 years ago, I’d care. As it stands, ESPN is only good for live sports. SVP at night is about as close as it gets to old school SportsCenter.
The glory days are gone. The personalities used to be big:
Dan Patrick
Stewart Scott
Linda Cohn
Craig Kilborn
Gary Miller
Charlie Steiner
Rich Eisen
Brian Kenny
John Anderson
Kenny Mayne
I could go on. Some of these still work for the network, but the format has changed, and they’ve been forced to change with it. Just look at what happened to Keith Olbermann.

Sportscenter was part of the daily routine of pretty much every guy I knew, as well as any female that like sports. No politics, just sports. It was great.

Didn't Sportscenter just re-air all morning back in the 90s?
Yep. All the way into the last decade.

ESPN had college baseball
ESPN broadcasts more college baseball now than ever before...
wonder what dumbass downvoted this. they show 40 games at a time nowadays on the ESPN app whereas they used to have 3 channels
Right at this moment on a Tuesday night they are airing 20+ college baseball games. No chance ESPN was airing Houston vs Mcneese in the 90s on a Tuesday night in prime time

They didn't always air Sportscenter all night and day like it is now. I remember some fitness show on while waiting for it to air a very long time ago. They used to show a lot more recorded events like billiards, beach volleyball, sailing, etc instead of non stop Sportscenter all night and morning. But that was a very long time ago.

I feel like they showed more poker from around 2003-2009 or so. You don’t see poker on ESPN like you did several years ago.
Posted on 3/22/23 at 12:37 am to Paul Allen
You're right. I forgot about that. There used to always be poker on ESPN2 every day when I'd get home from work. It used to be on Fox Sporte Net (now Bally Sports) a lot too. Now I never see it. They used to show bowling too.

Get Up
Pretty much every day, whether during the season or in the off-season, the main two things they discuss on Get Up are the Packers/Aaron Rodgers and the Cowboys/Dak Prescott. They invent new ways to say the same things over and over.
