The only real black spot was their complete no show against MSU in the SEC tourney final. Besides that, they lost one regular season game early in the year against UMASS. They avenged that with a pretty dominant performance against the Minutemen in the final four.

Pitino was a god.

I'm 41, best I saw was 96 Kentucky, no question.

Second best might be that 99 duke squad that lost to uconn in the title game.

The best team I’ve seen play is 1995-96 Kentucky. 34-2, undefeated in conference play. The two teams we lost to was UMass (coached by Calipari) and Mississippi State (SEC Championship). Both those teams made the Final Four with us. Beat UMass and then Syracuse for the title.

Antoine Walker
Tony Delk
Walter McCarty
Jeff Sheppard
Ron Mercer
Derek Anderson

The list goes on.

2000 Duke or whichever one beat Arizona in the title game was pretty great, too.

But yeah, the UConn win felt like a huge upset, and UConn was really good!

1984 Georgetown was the best team of the 80’s

That was a great team at a time with so much talent across the nation. Would have been a championship game of the ages if UNC had made it. Great coaching job by Bobby Knight, he seemed to have the Tar Heels number in the early eighties. 1984 was the apex of college basketball.

I can only comment on the best teams since I’ve been old enough to have an opinion. The two best teams in that time were 2007 Florida and 2018 Villanova. Kentucky was obscenely good in the late 90s for like 3 straight years.

I can’t get over the poster who said Jay Williams was an overrated cbb player. He’s one of the best college basketball players I’ve ever seen. Shane Battier was unbelievable too.

The 1996-1997 Kansas team that lost to Arizona in the Sweet 16 is up there as well. Only other loss that year was a a two point defeat on the road against Missouri in double overtime.

95-96 Kentucky. 9 NBA guys, constant pressure, versatile playmakers at every spot on the floor, incredible depth. Could play any pace and any style. Best team I’ve ever seen.

I'm pretty sure he's the best guard I've ever seen in college basketball.

It was a great talented team during the 06 07 runs for sure but don't know if they'd be GOAT.

2014 was really underrated for Donovan but didn't have much NBA talent and lost in F4 to Uconn. Had a great season overall

Best I've seen is the 1990 UNLV team. They played a very good Duke team in the NCAA finals and made it look like a one vs. a sixteen match up.

They were perfect. Two very good NBA players at the 4 and 5. An elite college small forward, gutsy scoring point guard and as good of a shooter as you’ll find. If I’m being honest that’s the team I compare all the other elite teams to when thinking about who’s best. I wasn’t old enough to have seen UNLV though.

If Mama could have hit a few FTs they would have beat them in Baton Rouge. They went 7 for 14
