The best team I’ve seen play is 1995-96 Kentucky. 34-2, undefeated in conference play. The two teams we lost to was UMass (coached by Calipari) and Mississippi State (SEC Championship). Both those teams made the Final Four with us. Beat UMass and then Syracuse for the title.

Agreed.

And part of those guys that stayed went on to lose in OT in the NC to Arizona in 97 and then win another NC in 98. So close to a three-peat.

That game I was so sick afterwards. That game was worse than the Laettner shot.

Fla has to be in discussion

They won a NC and every starter came back the next season. Definitely need to be in the discussion.

That UNLV 90 or 91 team was fricking unbelievable.

I loved that team so much and I had no affiliation whatsoever with the school or city. I just loved to watch them play.

Second best might be that 99 duke squad that lost to uconn in the title game

I have a buddy who is a duke grad and huge basketball fan, and him and several of his friends who graduated from Duke state without hesitation that the 99 team was the best, even though they didn't win it all.

Similar idea with UNLV. The 91 team that didn't win was the better team. Anything can happen in a single elimination tournament.

They’re obviously not the best but I do want to mention that 2018 Villanova team. The best I can remember from recent years. Destroyed every single team in the tournament by 12+ and had a 36-4 regular season record.

First Round: 87-61 vs #16 Radford
Second Round: 81-58 vs #9 Alabama
Third Round: 90-78 vs #5 West Virginia
Fourth Round: 71-59 vs #3 Texas Tech
Semifinal: 95-79 vs #1 Kansas
Final: 79-62 vs #3 Michigan

Tark’s team that destroyed Duke was pretty close too

Yeah, for that two year stretch I don't know that I've ever seen a better college team. I actually thought the one that lost to Duke in the semi-finals had a more dominant year but the fact that they didn't win it all you have to give the nod to the team that did win it all and blew Duke out.

Bama had them on the ropes in the PMAC, first or second round, Hoosiers got a controversial call go their way that tipped the balance.

Here are the best teams based on sports-reference's SRS system.

Highest SRS
1. 1999 Duke - 34.79
2. 1972 UCLA - 33.79
3. 1968 UCLA - 32.56
4. 2001 Duke - 32.18
5. 1996 Kentucky - 32.14
6. 1991 UNLV - 31.12

1999 Duke is the 2007 Patriots of college basketball. No college basketball team dominated the sport over the course of the full season the way they did. Won 37 games with only four of their victories being decided by fewer than 10 points and their two losses were by a combined five points. Had an average MOV of 24.6 PPG which is crazy for a team in a Power conference like the ACC. They were a couple bounces away from going 39-0 with an average MOV close to 25 PPG. 1999 Duke was the best college basketball team ever but they just didn't close the deal.

It's interesting Kentuckys 2015 is not mentioned. Undefeated till the final four with 2 teams of NBA prospects.
