Scenario:
Today's market conditions...tight supply, seller's market

Selling you a brand new car, $60,000 MSRP sticker, your number one choice in exact detail. There is 1 on the lot. Dealership tells you someone is interested in buying this vehicle this weekend.

Same brand/model/car but 65% of exact details in dealerships within 100 miles. Similar price.

Your number two choice, different brand/model/car, is available in other dealerships within 100 miles, but is $66,000 MSRP sticker, 10% higher price and missing significant feature that you want.

The car you own is in decent shape but won't be reliable in next 2 years

Your credit is very good

Low interest rate financing for 60 months is available

You have as much cash as you are willing to spend for this particular car

Trade in or not - your call

You are not sleeping with the sale person's spouse (kidding), yet

Here's what I will pay, and that's it. Take it or leave it.

Then I'm throwing some repairs at the old jalopy and waiting this shite out for another 12 months or more.

ETA: I want to know what you drive and it's actual current condition, I see tons of people justify new vehicle purchases and claiming their old one was on it's last leg. Most modernish vehicles can push 200,000 miles with some maintenance.

I feign the effort to suppress laughter in front of the salesman, then let him continue the sales pitch.

I would give him my contact info, offer $56K and walk away but that's just me and I'm probably a terrible negotiator.

You have to assert your dominance to get the upper hand. While you’re in his office negotiating, pull your dick out and slap it on the desk. If it’s big enough he will retreat and you will get what you want.

Sales has been easy as hell the past couple years. Just order takers for the most part.

Little negotiation going on. "This is the price. Take it or leave it."

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.

For your purposes insert whatever overpriced piece of shite car you want to buy for the hamburger.

Hey Louisiana dealership, here is a copy of my ticket to the White Sox vs Astros home opener in several weeks on March 30th at Minute Maid. I'm making a 4-day weekend out of it with 25 dealerships in H-Town within a 50-mile radius of each other. Here's my firm price that I'm willing to pay right now, you have 5 minutes to make it happen or I'm bouncing. This is how I do business, your call if you want the sale now or watch me leave and I'm not coming back.

So at what price are you willing to buy the vehicle? Or walk away? Offer that and let them make the decision. Or, you have the money, you want the car, so buy it.

Tell them fine, where is the next dealership

Let them make the offer based on finance but pay cash at the end.

Don't bother with MSRP, check what deals the dealer is getting but is not telling you about. Leave them with some profit just not too much. Last time I bought a new car for a friend saved them 6K and left the dealer with 2K profit. Another time I bought a new car for another friend and they opened their mouth about how they liked it and saved them almost nothing.

If you want to date the pretty girl you have to ba able to walk away and let them chase you.

I am in HTX. That is a pre-covid play. Everyone here wants $5-7K over sticker right now. Lexus is only dealer I know of in Houston (simply) asking for sticker. I visited ~5 last weekend.
