Does Dugas have a career in MLB after LSU?

He doesn’t have the prototypical size, speed or arm, but he crushes balls.
110mph off the bat on his HR last night.

Probably not. I can see him maxing out in Double-A.

Look at Jose Altuve. He certainly doesn't have the common traits of an MLB player but is one of the top players in the game every year.

I'm sure he'll get a minor league opportunity, after that who knows

He reminds me of Dan Uggla but with that said, I don’t see him getting past AA

Altuve has elite MLB tools. How tall he is isn’t a tool. Dugas isn’t undersized for a second baseman, and that has nothing to do with him as a prospect

Hits for average, hits for power, is fast and athletic, and plays well at his position. What common traits does he lack?

Genuinely curious how many non-pitchers that stayed in college for 5 years have made the majors.

People in this thread must think every baseball player is 6’3 220lbs+. Dugas being 5’10 205lbs makes him heavier than most of the position players projected to go in the first round of this draft. He’s also an above average athlete. Not sure what he runs now, but PBR had him running a 6.5 60 at their event in HS. Anything under 7 seconds is good, 6.5 is well above average.
People bringing up 5’5 Altuve is wild

Matt Carpenter is one that sticks out, but also the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

And every 6’ qb can be elite in the NFL because of Drew Brees.
If you are using outliers to prove your point you have lost your argument.

One thing is for sure. He will be a top 5-10 round pick and get lowballed by a MLB team.

When he was halfway through his freshman campaign I told my nephew (who pitched for LSU) that Dugas had a chance to make it to mlb if he continued hitting as he was and got better as he got older. My reasoning was that in today's game they value power so highly.
He laughed at me and said Dugas is a one tool guy. I maintained that he was a two tool guy who hit for power and got on base A LOT. Also, none of his other tools were bad - just not great. I also pointed out that one of my nephew's teammates, Schimpf, was a true one tool guy who made it. He said yeah, but Schimpf hit 20 HRs in 2009. Well, Dugas ended that year with 19.
Anyway, to this day we constantly make fun of each other about Dugas. Last night he texted me halfway through the game and said Dugas is turning into a one tool guy...gets on base but no power. The next time up Dugas hit his HR and the shite was on!

By the time this season ends he will be 23. That would put him at 24 before he gets a full minor league season in. That is pretty old. Even if he has enough skill, time is against him.

I could see him getting drafted as a corner outfielder. Solid speed, solid arm, solid BA, and Slugging%.

If he learns to play 2nd base,he could be another Jeff Kent.

Thanks Scout! I just love these threads

I was simply commenting on the OP, which called out Dugas' size.

I was commenting on the OP since he questioned the MLB career possibility for Dugas due to his size. I was just comparing the two on that comment alone

Comparing him to Altuve is dumb. Dugas is 4 inches taller and 40 pounds heavier than Altuve. Dugas isn't really that small.
