FYI, from what I've heard he didn't even get excited when he was drafted. I know someone who was at his party and stated this. He may have all-world talent but the drive and hunger was seriously lacking.

He basically said that he didn’t love football and several draft profiles pretty much said it

it is what it is.

we've let other defenders go in the past who played well afterwards though.

that's the tough part and dumb luck we have is all I was getting at.

Hope he balls out unless its vs. the Saints

We shouldn’t sign anyone unless they were cut this year and load up on comp picks.

After all we’ve given up for Davenport, hard to believe we wouldn’t go 1 for 13 on him. This reads like Davenport wanted a change of scenery

You know, this is a recurring theme...

first marcus williams
now marcus davenport

I think its clear something in that locker room is amiss, I think its DA.

I was one of about 10 posters on here that said Davenport was a bust from his early days here and 98% of posters here thought he was the greatest player on our defense!

We are already maxed out for comp picks in 2024

6th rounder for Ellis
6th for Tuttle
4th or 5th for Onymata
4th for Davenport

I wasn’t a Davenport fan but 1 year $13 mil? I would have done that deal. I’d rather that than us paying Winston $8 million to be the backup QB.

We paying him 4 million to be the backup. The only way he gets 8 million is probably if he is the starter and we make the playoffs.

Watch him get double digit sacks on a prove it deal

He was basically on a one year price it deal last year and put up a whopping .5 sacks.

Saints need to trade with the vikings for zadarius smith.

Much better player than davenport.

Kinda hard to match that when it's a one year deal and you are up agai st the cap. Can't play with the numbers.

On too of that, he got passed up at the end of the year. Could've come down to davenport's agent telling him to take the one yr deal over a 2 or 3 year deal with the saints.

I'm sure we will hear shortly whether the saints even made an offer.

Exactly. That full $13M is hitting their cap this year.

I imagine he wants 1-year deals until he can blow up and get a mega deal. The Saints cannot play that game.

This past season was the first I felt Davenport wasn’t very good, not just being held back by injuries. Maybe all the injuries have taken their toll or he just went in injured from the start but he didn’t ever really show flashes of that dominant pass rusher he has in the past
