PEEEEETE.

If that guy would have played in that chickenshit tournament that record would have been followed by the biggest asterisk in the history of asterisks**********.

Isn't it crazy that it takes 5 years and a 3 point line and a shot clock to even approach Pete's record? If Pete had a 3 point line and his freshman year counted he'd be over 5000 approaching 6000 maybe and it would be really unbreakable.

PS8 anyone ?

“But Detroit Mercy hasn't given up on securing a postseason opportunity. Another opportunity could materialize Monday. A new event called the PS8 could become an option for the Titans, according to the school. Detroit Mercy finished 14-19 and 9-11 in the Horizon League this season.

"We are awaiting word on if there is an offer from there," Detroit Mercy spokesman P.J. Gradowski told ESPN on Sunday.”

Apparently he’s gonna still break it by entering the new PS8

If the record is one day broken, I hope it’s at least someone that got 4 years of eligibility.

if they are going to count someones stats today with a shot clock, 3 point line and 4 years of eligibility with what Pete did in 3 years with no shot clock and no three point line then the NCAA needs to add Pete's freshman stats to his record to make it "somewhat" fair comparison...

Even for the CBI, it would have been a stretch to include a 14-19 team.

The CBI was not the one I was most worried about. Last season they had a tournament called The Basketball Classic sponsored by Eracism. 14-15 Detroit Mercy played in that tournament last season and the worst record was something like 11-18 . That was also sanctioned by the NCAA. I can't find anything about a 2023 tournament though. That was started in 2022 as the successor to the CIT.

Will that be a sanctioned postseason tournament? If it is not then the points will not count.

Seems kinda of funny the effort being made for one more game.

Comparing the two is laughable.

Nah it's not starting this year.

The Basketball Classic doesn't have anything on their page for 2023, so I assume Davis' chase is over. For the weirdos who love mid-major hoops, the CBI actually has some decent teams, including 2 from the Horizon where Detroit Mercy plays. Everyone would've known that DM would've only been there bc of Davis' record chase, DM would be pretty easily the worst team in that bracket too

I noticed that too, not even any teasers.

As do I. But if they do crank that up, I feel like it almost a given that they invite DM. It would be the biggest draw they could get.

The school most definitely. But when they asked his dad he said he would accept the invite but it would be up to the players if they wanted to participate. When they asked Antoine he said he wouldn't want to play in the CBI or NIT. Take that for what it's worth.

Didn't ball out in his last game either.

How many games did Pete play and how many did Davis play?

All that needs to be said.

I wonder if the record chase is more on his dad, than him...

quote:

Davis struggled to shoot well in the final eight minutes of that game after he injured his shoulder when he fell into the bleachers. He finished 7 of 26 from the field and 4 of 16 from 3-point range for 22 points. Over the last eight minutes, he was 1 of 9 from the field with six of the misses from 3-point range.

In Detroit Mercy’s previous game, Davis passed up several open shots late in an 81-68 win over Purdue Fort Wayne in the Horizon League Tournament. Instead, he passed off to teammates. Little did he know that two more buckets in that game would’ve given him the record in the next game. He finished with 38 points and eight assists in that game.

“The fact was, we had one minute to go, and he could’ve easily went in for layups,” Detroit Mercy coach Mike Davis, his father, said. “He gave it up to his teammates. That tells you who he is as a teammate and as a person.”
Sounds like his dad was moaning about the fact that he didn't shoot more, in the final minute of a game they won by 13, and he had 38 pts.

You're up that big with a minute left, and "open", you don't shoot. You run clock, and pass when they start to run at you. It's a tournament, you play to win first, not get records.

As for him "falling into the bleachers", credit to him if he's diving for loose balls, instead trying to spot up. And they lost by 5, so if the score was that close, I don't fault him shooting (and missing) so much, if they were good looks. He's clearly their offense, and sounds like he was trying to keep them in the game.

That’s so cool. He was before my time. But I would have loved to seen him play at the house he built-the PMAC

I tried the homework basketball videos. Just couldn’t quite dribble like he could. Hahaha

They use to play the games at the Cow Palace (Ag center) so Pistol never actually played in the PMAC ... crazy to think.
