Anything over 10 years old is being mandated to be replaced for many carriers if not all at this point.

Where do you live?
Here in Louisiana only a few days you really need hot water for a shower.
I could get by without a water heater.

I'd replace them....must be a high value home and it will be hard to find coverage if Vault drops you

The new ones really only last ~10 yrs, built for obsolescence. I replace them at year 10 in rental units because $400 is nothing compared to a flooded unit and pissed off renters. That being said I did not realize insurance companies were now mandating it.

Do they ask for a picture of your water heater? I know one of our rental houses they requested it but not the one I live in. It's coming up for renewal though and I have a 2011 GE gas heater which has been fantastic.

I have two tankless and wouldn’t consider anything else. You could probably reduce your 4 down to two tankless.

Have heard of this recently. Wondering if it is a way to drop you for cause.

Would there be a financial reason that is better for them?

Tank type has storage plus recovery to produce a 1 hour supply. Whereas instant type only has recovery so needs more btu capacity to need same 1 hour supply. typical less btu for tank vs instant. So if replacing tank to instant May need larger gas supply. Especially if you are going from 4 tank to 2 instant.

How do they even know what type of hot water heater you have? My insurance company has never been inside of my house.

Are they wanting the new, fancy ones with leak detection? They're better, you know......because they hook up to bluetooth and can talk to your refrigerator.

This is about water heaters, baw. Hot water heaters are an entirely different issue.

Good gracious don't give my insurer any ideas.

When we went to this company after Southern Fidelity melted down, we had to get a four point inspection and we had to verify the roof was less than THREE years old (it was... replaced after Zeta).

Actually last summer the heating element broke on our water heater (in attic). Fixed it. Decided to get a quote to replace it. Quote was $3,100. $700 for the water heater, and $2,400 for installation, because apparently they needed to redo this and that and etc. I was so insanely pissed off I blew off replacing it.

The last one I had barely made it six years. I had to replace it with one with a control panel, bluetooth, and leak detection because I couldn't find a "dumb" one in stock. Now, I have an app on my phone that I don't use.
