Who is responsible for damage in extraction mishap?

Truck #1 goes mud riding and gets stuck. #2 gets stuck trying to extract #1. #3 gets stuck, #4 stuck, and #5 snaps a strap pulling #4 out. Strap dents the side of #5.
Who is responsible for the damage to #5?

#1 - he started all of it

I would think each individual. They made a choice to try to extract previous truck.

If there is damage to a truck in that situation it’s every man for themselves.
5 didn’t have to try and pull 4 out. Doing so damaged his own truck.

#5, he made the choice to attempt, taking the risk of getting himself stuck and damaging his truck.
The proper move is to realize 1-4 are in a pickle, you could end up in a pickle, and crack open a beer and watch the rest sort it out from the sideline while posting pics and updates on the OB.
Have we learned nothing from the F250 stuck on Elmers spectating thread of years past?

Solution:
Buy a 2wd truck and a 4 wheeler and trailer. Never have to put truck in the mud, and no one will ever call you to try to pull them out. Win/win.
Then as the previous poster said, crack a beer and watch from the sidelines.

I have pulled many a dude out in a bind. Blew a motor once doing it. I knew when I agreed to pull them out it was on me.
I keep a beater 4x4 for this reason now. No truck pulls better than one you don’t care if you tear up.

#1 should cover any damage caused by his getting stuck, or at least 1-4. Don't know if you could make them but if I was the one stuck and it took 4 other people to get me out I would feel like it was on me to pay for any damages to their truck.
When I have pulled people out before, I make them hook their own vehicle up and tell them if something breaks it is on them.
Edit to add: I get what everyone is saying is that no one forced #5 to try to pull them out but in all probability it was people they know and felt an obligation to help.

Whoever brought the beer is the most likely culprit...

Sounds like you have some sissy trucks.
Number 5 is responsible for hooking to his own truck. Number 4 hooks to his truck. I have had rookies hook to their own fenders and I have pulled them off....his fault because he hooked to his truck. Should have picked a better spot to hook up.
In this case, the chain/strap broke....not a truck part....so nobody is responsible. Erryman for himself.

Had a guy hook the chain to his bumper. It pulled off and took out the back glass on my Bronco...nice dents in the tailgate too. I was pissed.
