re: Deion Sanders looks for ‘dual parent’ homes in QB recruits, ‘single mama’ households in DL

Don’t see the problem. He is right and everyone thinks the same but he is the only one that’s said it. Though any other coach says it, it would lead to firings.

So if some superstar QB doesn’t come from a nuclear family or isn’t a scholar in the classroom, you’re not going to recruit him? And what if you try to make an exception but he’s turned off by what was said by Deion about single mothers?
I mean, if Deion had said he’s looking for black RB’s, well, that will do 99% of the time. But what about the next Christian McCaffrey? There are always going to be great players outside the mold or stereotype. Why say something that might offend one of those players?
It was just dumb. No recruit is going to flock to him over those comments but he could potentially push someone away.

Deion is fricking awesome. Pulling for Colorado hard this season, hope he crushes it.

At least you didn't call him by his nickname. Upvote

That’s where you would dig deeper into the player if they don’t fit the mold. Parents divorced? Time to dig deeper into his relationship with both parents.

Here is what I have found for the last 10 years.
Nice work there.
Successful CFB/NFL quarterbacks have lower rates of single parenthood than the society overall. That is wild.

Isn’t Deion twice divorced and his QB is his son?

Well, he may have included it because everyone these days pretends that there aren’t any black, two parent households
So you just assumed he meant that.

Imagine a white coach saying this

Deion is a piece of shite
Based on what
That guy is in every single thread and Larry Leo post saying the same about Deion. He goes out of his way to find them to talk shite about him.

No one said that it’s 100% fool proof. If someone said it, could you link it?
It’s posted in this thread that it’s about an 80% hit rate as far as successful QBs go.
If a superstar QB comes along and he’s a thug POS, does success seem more likely for him off the field?
Does anyone know if Perrillouxs parents were together when he was a superstar QB? That’s one example I can think of off the top of my head.

Single parenthood means there’s not father present.
Deion is very involved in his kids lives.

It’s not so much that he believes it (even generally) but that he said it in public.
If I were a 5 star QB living with my single mother and she did everything she could to support me and I’m busting my arse to be a good player, I don’t think I would really care too much for Deion’s comment about seeking QB’s from two-parent homes.
How about you?
What’s the upside to publicly saying something like that?

Seems like I remember (but I definitely could be incorrect) an off-the-record from Saban saying that he would rather recruit poor kids from the hood than comfortable kids from the burbs. A poor kid often times has nothing other than the game. The game is the path to a better life.
It is backed up by psychology, Order v Chaos. A comfortable person embraces order to maintain comfort. They do not push or grow. A person who has less has to move into chaos to grow and move beyond what they currently are. Often, they go to far (drugs, violence, crime) and are lost.

I think it’s more like poor kids are more likely to have the size and/or speed necessary to get recruited…

He's in his son's life.
Where are LeBron James' and Shaq's fathers?

The intent here is that all other factors being equal, you get the elite athlete from the hood, not from the burbs.

I don’t think the issue is whether there’s relevance to what’s been said, just the value of saying it publicly.
If you’re the manager at a grocery store and some fat arse customer walks up to the counter with a buggy filled with gallons of chocolate ice cream, you wouldn’t be factually wrong in telling him he’s a fat arse and should lay off the ice cream. But would that truth be a smart thing to say from a business perspective? No, not really. You would likely lose a customer.
Just because something is true (or generally true) doesn’t mean it’s wise to say it. Similarly, there’s no upside to what Deion said but there could be a downside.
It was dumb.

I don’t know if this is true.
There’s a big difference between a comfortable suburban upbringing and the status that goes along with being a starter for a major college football team - and then perhaps being a millionaire pro player. The motivation should be there if the talent is.
With the suburbanites, you’re also more likely to find better character and less baggage.
It’s hard to compare the two because, frankly, white kids generally have better backgrounds and black kids generally have more talent.
Talent truly being equal, would I rather roll with a middle-upper class kid or one from the projects? I would take the middle-upper class kid. I think trash being trash is more likely to derail promising talent than a lack of motivation.

It's funny that none of you deion pole smokers even realize how him using his color to say this stuff is rascist as frick. You may like the message and it may be accurate but him saying it because he can because he's black is fricking rascist and just gives black American men more room to operate in the double standard. It's really crazy considering how conservative you likely are.
