I wouldn’t bet on that.
Lots of white EWE type Democrats in Louisiana who will pull the lever for someone like JBE or Francis Thompson, but they’ll vote Republican before voting for a black Democrat.

Landry may not be a slam dunk candidate,

Proposed and in the works before he became Secretary. When you see DOTD projects that was started about 5-10 years prior.... if not longer.

Wrong.
I’m not in Landry camp, but if a runoff for Governor were between him and a leftist Democrat, I would absolutely hold my nose and vote for Landry.
But Wilson doesn't need to get all the Republican voters, just enough to put him over the top. And that is not an impossibility at all.

Coming from someone who was a govt employee for several years, the last thing we need is a lifelong govt employee in charge of anything. Especially from DOTD, he’s going to need six guys to stand around holding pens while one guy signs everything.

This guy is retiring before the one year, one lane interstate closure shitshow starts next year. Probably would fear for his life that whole time.
Yeah...I'm sure he's the best.

I would like to see I10 improved, please. It may not be fun while they are constructing the new interstate but it sucks now so what's the difference.
Look at Dallas. They shut down lanes and build stuff all the time.
People here complain. Ask Kip. He wanted a loop.

Did DOTD ever get around to poking holes through the big concrete dam they created along I-12 from Denham Springs to Oneal lane?
You know, the one that backed up 3ft during the flood of 2016.
Nah.

Mark my words. He is going to give Landry a run for his money. Every Republican not in the Landry camp (which is a lot) will hold their nose and vote for Wilson.
Not if another Democrat gets in the race.
Of the declared/perspective candidates here are my projections:
Landry 24%
Graves 23%
Shawn 20%
Schroder 15%
Hewitt 10%
Nelson 4%
Lundy 1%
Other 3%
In the primary it may not take much to get into the runoff. So depending on the field and candidates, the top 2 vote getters my not get 25% of the vote in the primary.

I have a favorable albeit uninformed opinion of Shaun Wilson.

I10 down to one lane for an "estimated" (yeah...right) one full year is going to be magnitudes worse than just suck. Every surface street in BR is going to look like the interstate at rush hour does now.
I would really like to see what other plans were considered and tossed away in favor of this crap.

I would not vote for Shawn Wilson for dog catcher….he has done a horrible job as head of our highway department….
Posted on 2/16/23 at 8:23 am to toosleaux
i work directly with DOTD as a contractor and they are the most incompetent group i have ever dealt with...a retired DOTD person is the last person i would vote for...

Dude is not even an engineer, he has a masters in public administration. Met him once at a jambalaya cookout at Lamar Dixon . He should be selling used cars or something.

I agree with both of the previous post…he has no business being head of the highway department it was purely a political democratic political appointment …..
I met him once he was very arrogant….

Jeff Landry's dream come true. Wilson will almost certainly make the runoff. Landry wins 54-46. JBE was an anomaly. He beat a nearly unelectable candidate in the first election. He beat a first-time candidate 51.3 - 48.7 in the second election.

How many state agencies in LA are considered well run?
*crickets*
How many of them are considered disasters?
DOTD, Health and Hospitals, Child and Family Services, and Public Safety are all probably up there.
About the only thing in DOTD’s favor is that DCFS has had high profile child deaths drawing attention toward them as a whipping boy.

if Wilson runs, he will win in a landfall. He will get 100% of the black vote without trying. He will get all of the white democratic votes as well. This election will be just like Obama's in 2008 because Wilson is simply a man of color.
Maybe you should check out how Obama did in Louisiana in 2008 and 2012.

Why would any voter think the head of DOTD would be a competent governor?
Just look at our roads? I don’t understand how he could be a serious candidate.

Scary thing is he has already won Orleans, EBR, and Caddo.
