I’ve been told to try some of this stuff in my next crawfish boil. Anyone know where I can find some of this in the Baton Rouge area?

Any Asian market / grocery should have it.

Grocery stores will carry it. Cajun Land bottles it.

Tony's once marketed it as "Twice as Hot" pepper, or something like that.

It's not nearly as easy to find as it was years ago. Chackbay still uses it in their mix, thank goodness.

Chackbay uses it in their mix.

You will need to add salt and perhaps a little cayenne to it but I like the flavor profile

There is a Spice company called A Spicy World in Kenner, that you can buy it by the pound.

I like it better than Cayenne pepper. The Asian market at Sherwood and Florida usually has it but I buy mine in bulk from a spice shop online.

I’ve heard it’s really good in the boils but I’ve never saw it in stores

Look online. eBay sells it.
Old LSU roommate used to use it when he did boils back in the early 80’s.
Those crawfish were hot. Drank lots of beer

Also search for Tien Tsin, that is what is on my current package. It was 10lbs for about $40-$50 last I remember. Looks to be a little more now, but it lasts a long time.

Its alot hotter than cayenne so be careful or you will ruin your boil.

I didn’t find it that much hotter, it had a weird after taste to it to me.

Looks like cayenne is around 30-50k Scoville and Chinese is 50-75k. Not a big difference.

That is what I use. Great stuff. My father in law used to order it by the 5 gallon bucket.

Tien Tsin

I'll see if I can find some plants this year. A Chinese themed vinegar hot sauce sounds promising: tien tsin peppers, vinegar, salt, sichuan pepper, 5 spice.......

I find it’s a different type of heat. Cayenne sits on your lips with the spice where the Chinese red pepper lives in the back of your throat. I love Chinese red pepper in my boils and get it from dorignacs

I found this today at Calandro's on Perkins. I haven't tried it yet.
