Many friends and family have told me to buy my plumbing and electrical fixtures off Amazon when the time comes. Has anyone done this? Did you save any money?
We had a light fixture that was weird as frick to install with no instructions, but comments had review with step by step instructions that saved me
Bought a cheap bathroom sink and it was horrible and the cartridge went bad within a month and there was no way to change it without basically breaking the whole thing
MIL had a bad faucet that had to be at least 10 yrs old. I went to buy parts for it from a faucet repair shop and they said I need to call delta and they will replace it.
No bullshite.. called delta and had a brand new faucet in 10 days. not just the internals it needed, but entire faucet.
exceptional customer service and stands behind their products.
Simply buying Delta won't guarantee a quality valve.
Think about that lawn mower purchase from a big box store, where you were fired up to get that nice green John Deere, only to find out you were scammed with inferior components. Same thing you might have found out with many of their power tools. Because these guys are large enough to have their own (cheaper) version that'll look the same but will have a one letter different model.
Hint: for a quality faucet you go to a plumbing supply house; where the brass internals won't be swapped out with plastic. If you know what to look for that's different because not all of their goods are this way. And because that 50 dollar discount for a slightly different shower valve may end up costing you considerably more in the end.
Outfitted a new home in a mix of Wayfair, Amazon, and build.com items.
All bathroom light fixtures, dining chandelier, and cabinet hardware came from Amazon. Fans (Minka Aire and Hunter) and other light fixtures came from Wayfair and Build.com. Faucets came from build.com.
Happy with all of the fixtures we purchased and have had no issues in the last 2 years.
quote: Many plumbers will not warranty items bought from Amazon.
Nobody is going to warranty anything the owner provides. That's all on the owner.
And unless the trade says they installed it wrong, labor is paid either way.
ETA: OP I'm not saying it's a bad idea. It's a bad idea to expect the same level of customer service when you buy all the stuff from Amazon if something were to go wrong/bad. It'll still be installed the same way and everything. If you're needy and don't know what a screwdriver is, let the local guys pick it up.
Wasn't aware plumbers take care of warranty items for Delta. I've had a few things break and just emailed Delta directly and they sent me new or upgraded stuff.

wrong. when we built, my friend who was a salesman at coburns told me to go to his showroom and pick out everything then buy it all from amazon. he said it's all exactly the same. This was for delta.
on lights, my wife would find something in the style she liked on an expensive website then find an equivalent on amazon for a fraction of the price. Saved hundreds there.
I've bought cook tops, microwave, tons of light fixtures, drawer pulls, hinges and plumbing from Amazon. Just so much to choose from on there vs. HD/Lowes/etc. Cheaper? Maybe on some things.
Just be careful with reading reviews. Soooo many are fake with the no-name stuff. Best way I've found to get legit reviews is to sort reviews by most recent. That way you at least get an even mix of fakes to legits.

I think this was the case at one point. I worked in wholesale plumbing for a decade and with big box. When I was there, the part numbers were the same and interchangeable. There MAY be specific big box models, but they're almost all identical.
I also worked with lighting and saw the sourcing of light fixtures. Almost all come from china. I worked setting up for a big international light show at the Dallas Market Center. All of the companies had the same Chinese boxes in the hallway during unpacking and showroom setup.
I bought some cheap light fixtures to replace in my bathroom. I've used cheap light bulbs and led bulbs. Seems the bulbs go out way faster than any other fixture in my house. Maybe it's from the moisture from being in a bathroom, no clue. It also may have nothing to do with the fixture itself
Build.com is Ferguson Ferguson has bought Minka and aa few high end lighting companies, along with being the largest plumbing supplier in North America.
I wouldn't buy a plumbing fixture from Amazon unless it's an item like a showerhead that is easy to replace and won't cause collateral damage when it fails.
Amazon sells too much Chinese garbage with counterfeit and gray-market sourcing, faulty labeling, and false performance claims.
As with most things, trying to save money, might cost you down the line. Plumbing and electrical are a could things when building a house, could come back to bite you.
Years ago folks were going up to some place in Ms. to buy plumbing fixtures and tubs. Only to find out, plumbers would install, but if it failed, you were on your own.
Much like lighting, I’ve seen some stuff from China, no instructions. Many fans only have one rheostat, that’s the reason when trying to watch a movie in your family room. Fan noise can make it very hard. Quorum fans have three rheostats, one for each speed, removing much if not all of the noise.
