Disney Magic Kingdom 1 day

Going to bring the kids to see their grandfather in central fla. We planned for 1 day at Disney World since so close.
3 year old girl and 6 year old boy. We're just doing Magic Kingdom.
Any pointers on how best to plan/manage to get the best we can in that timeframe? Last time I was there it was the early 90s. Heard its a completely different ballgame now.

Magic Kingdom is now officially the shittiest park in the Disney portfolio. The Harry Potter section is great, but unless your kids are really into Potter and a little older, it would suck for them too.
Honest answer, wait until they are a little older and plan a Disney trip.
Spend time with Grand dad.
ETA- just got back from Disney in December. Did Universal, MK, Epcot, Animal Kingdom. So my memory is relatively fresh.

They will be amazed. Take it slow and don't rush or overwhelm them and your day will go much better. Bring or rent a stroller so they can sit. They don't need to "see" everything or ride all the rides. A cinnamon roll at Gastons Tavern or riding the monorail is as amazing to them as riding the newest ride with a 2 hour wait. Remember that.

Harry Potter is at Universal, not the Magic Kingdom.

ALOT depends on if you're staying on site or not. Basically, what time can you book your individual lightning lane and what time can you enter so make sure you know factor that into your planning.
On site resort guests can get in 30 minutes before anyone else so regardless of whether you're staying onsite or not, get there 30 minutes earlier than it opens.
9am opening, be in the park by 8:30 if you are not a resort guest and they will "hold you" inside the park at certain lands. Do not be pulling up to the transportation and ticket center at 8:26 for a 9 am opening
Buy Genie + and the Individual Lightning Lane (7 Dwarves Mine Train) as soon as your window opens. Book your first G+ reservation for Space Mountain.
When you get into the park go left, towards Thunder Mountain / Jungle Cruise. If Jungle Cruise is a must do, stop there first. If it isn't, skip it to Thunder Mtn first. If you do Jungle Cruise first then go to Thunder Mnt, then Pirate. Then Haunted Mansion, Little Mermaid Ride and try to knock out everything you can in Fantasyland, Liberty Square, etc. all the while adding your G= reservations every two hours.

We took our kids when they were very young and their reactions were priceless. The characters are real to them when they’re little and it shows in their emotions. So to all the people who say “they won’t remember, you’re wasting your time!”, well I remember and I have pictures of them overcome with emotion when seeing the characters. We still take them and they’re older now and love the rides more but I wouldn’t trade their early trips for anything.
Get there as early as you can, rent a stroller (we always did Orlando Stroller Rentals). Being that young, y’all probably won’t be able to ride the more popular rides. Take them on Small World, Tea Cups, Peter Pan, etc. Take them to a character meet and greet. Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom had character breakfasts when we went and Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary resort right outside the gate did as well. Enjoy!

The book “Unofficial Guide to DisneyWorld” was always great for us. Been a few years. For 1 day I’d plan to be there all day and spend whatever you have to spend to do things as fast as possible. There is enough to do at MK for those ages that you’ll be satisfied. Lunch or Dinner in the Castle is pretty neat especially if you can be there for the fireworks. Food is not too bad and I recall they served wine there too. I think. Reservations required.

WDW gets massive hate on this board - some of it for good reason.
However, I have 2 girls (3 and 8) and we have been more than I'd like to admit (most recently for Christmas party). It's about a 7 hour drive for us from SC, we typically stay off property (using Chase UR or Hyatt points) to mitigate costs a bit and usually have 1 sit down meal per day. It's crowded, tiring, and you get fleeced at every turn (not to mention, their politics) - but my daugthers (and wife) absoltuely love it, so it's what we do.
Once they are a bit older, we will probably try to do more outdoor type trips, but for now - this is what they want to do. My oldest daugther is about to turn 9, so I'm essentially halfway done with having her under my roof - so for me, it's worth the price for the memories at this stage of our lives.
To the OP, if you 3 year old can power through, for one day - arrive as early as possible and stay til after fireworks, adrenaline will carry them both and the youngest can catch a nap in the stroller. They will let you bring whatever you food you want, load down the stroller with bottled water and uncrustables to save a few bucks. If you want to eat in the park, Tony's (italian place on Main, need reservation) is good, also like Cosmic Rays (hot dogs, etc), and the Beast Castle (will need a reservation). If 6 year old wants to ride mine train, try to rope drop it if you can to knock it out. For some reason, Peter Pan has gotten really popular in recent years, not worth an hour wait, skip it.
Other than that, I'll answer anything I can. I'm a veteran

Just go in with an open mind, make a list of the things that are really important to you, and if you do a full day you can easily knock out everything you want to do.
This board is split, but I recommend getting genie+ as you can schedule a few rides ahead of time.

Concur, especially for 1 day. The way I see it is, if you are already dropping $500 in park tickets, I would rather spend another $100 to get a better value out of that $500.

Thread from 2006 which is still active to this day. Started with a simple question: "Is it my (8o's impaired) imagination, or did there used to be a spaceship in the planetarium on Spaceship Earth?"
Nostalgia overload. Takes me back to the days when Walt Disney World was in its classic form and my grandparents would take us in the summer time. We didn't know how good we had it..

Get the lightning lane passes. My wife handles all the prep for our Disney vacations, but use the lightning lane passes and if you want to ride everything, you'll need to wake up early and book your rides on the app. There are several youtube videos on how to plan accordingly.

What time will you get there and what time do you want to leave? Can give more pointed suggestions because 5 hour recommendations would be different than 10 hours.
I recommend splurging to valet park at Contemorary Resort. It might be $33 (plus timp) compared to Magic Kingdom parking at $25. MK parking is lost time because you need to walk or tram from car and then still either take a ferry or monorail. Or you can spend a few more bucks to park at Contemporary and walk to Magic Kingdom and either walk back after or take the monorail to the first stop at Contemporary. Yeah it costs more but you'll save time and avoid some crowds.
Download apps ahead of time. There's both a Disney World App and a Play Disney Parks App. The former is useful for maps, schedules, attraction waits, Genie+, Lightning Lane, and mobile food orders. You need it. The Play Disney Parks app is optional but has some games and trivia stuff for walking around and waiting in lines. Not necessary but know it exists.
However long you're there make sure you chill out. Get snacks and sit around and don't be in a rush to go go go, you'll exhaust your kids and then you'll drive you nuts. If there all day, consider actually leaving the park and hopping on the monorail loop for some chill time and maybe see the resorts.

Looking into "rent DVC." Nothing at Boulder Ridge should cost $3k/night. 2 bedroom villas should still be well under this.
