Nick sort of walks it back and Mike Thomas tweets back at Nick saying he need not walk his prior tweet back (about MT being cut), and says that we should “stay tuned.”

Not sure why MT’s response to an unbiased report of him likely being cut due to the cap/salary would result in MT saying “stay tuned” unless MT knows the organization isn’t going to cut him…

When he restructured his contract, this had to be the intentions on both sides.

In the twitter link I do not see Underhill reference cutting anyone specifically, let alone Thomas, and I also don't see a tweet from Thomas. Can you tell us what was said?

I wouldn't be totally opposed to that.

2023 contract numbers.
Derek Carr_(Base Salary)$32,900,000_(Signing Bonus)$1,875,000_(Workout Bonus)$100,000_(Dead Money)$26,174,352)_(Total Cap Hit)$13,558,588_(Percent of Total Cap)6.03%

Michael Thomas_(Base Salary)$1,165,000_(Signing Bonus)$4,180,588_(Roster Bonus)200,000_(Workout Bonus)$200,000_(Restruc Bonus)_7,813,000_(Dead Money)$5,625,000)_(Total Cap Hit)$34,875,000_(Percent of Total Cap)15.07%

MT13 has a roster bonus of ~33Mil due in 2024 that becomes fully guaranteed on March 17, 2023.

2024 contract (MT13, final contract year)
Michael Thomas_(Base Salary)$18,500,000_(Signing Bonus)$180,588_(Roster Bonus)32,755,000_(Workout Bonus)$200,000_(Restruc Bonus)7,813,000_(Dead Money)$14,180,764)_(Total Cap Hit)$59,448,588_(Percent of Total Cap)25.30%

Derek Carr_(Base Salary)$41,900,000_(Signing Bonus)$1,875,000_(Workout Bonus)$100,000_(Dead Money)$3,750,000)_(Total Cap Hit)$43,875,000_(Percent of Total Cap)17.05%

Carr's contract goes through the 2025 season and 2025 is practically the same as 2024.

ETA: Most of you know I'm not smart enough to come up with this myself. So credit where credit is due. Sportrac

Typical Michael Thomas. Communicates nothing pro-actively, but lightning fast at responding to any perceived slight on Twitter.

Mike deleted the tweet so I can’t link you to what he said. But it’s all over Instagram if you search any Saints fan pages. They posted the screenshot. Here’s a link to one that I found:

I think it's funny he follows underhill bc Thomas gets trashed all the time in the comments on underhill's tweets.

His ego wont let him simply "get cut." He is Michael Jordan in his own mind. He has to posture and make it look like they parted ways mutually etc and he didnt get dumped. This is just the beginning of his campaign on that. Bookmark it.

I wish it would. He showed in the few games he played in last year just how valuable he is, and how good a pass catcher he is.

Only reason I would want him gone is if the injury issues are still lingering. When healthy he's one of the best receivers in the league, set the catch record AFTER signing his new deal. Won the first Atlanta game for us last year.

If he's healthy, I'd rather him stay, but if it helps us get a better quarterback here, then I guess that's the price of business.

If he woulda put in half the time rehabbing instead of checking twitter and instagram, he may have played the last three years….

Such revisionist history. No one was saying that before the injuries. When he was setting records everyone loved him and every article written about how hard he works, how he embraced the city, and how he plays with a chip on his shoulder was being shared here.

Now the last 2.5 years, starting with the Reggie Bush drama then the injuries has changed that, rightfully so, but to act like he wasn't loved before that is bullshite.
