I’ve quit drinking, smoking cigarettes, weed, and Zyn’s using cough drops. Any time you even think you’re getting a craving just pop one in as a substitute. They have to be strong though, I buy Vick’s Vapo-Cools in bulk on Amazon, they’re the strongest cough drop you can get.

A normal Hall’s has about 5mg of menthol, the Vapo-Cools have 25mg! They are very strong and they work. I used to pop a Zyn any time I had to drive somewhere, now I pop a cough drop and get a handful for my pocket. It really works if you train your brain to accept the cough drop in lieu of whatever else you were craving.

Hope this helps anyone struggling with this stuff, it’s worked for me for about 6 months now.

OT response: haha oral fixation

Actual response: this is pretty neat and thank you for sharing. I may have to tell friends trying to quit about this technique.

But now you’re probably hooked on cough drops

Odd thread. A little weed is healthier than stuffing your mouth with medicated cough drops all day

The best fix/diet is the one we believe in. What was it that made you try and believe in this?

Are you saying it's the menthol or what? Seems like you'd want a replacement at least more enjoyable tasting than the item you're replacing.

Started this about a week ago.

Now I smoke menthols with a cough drop.

Keep it up! Well done.

Hope a clear head, lesser dips in the day and general productivity in your life and relationships reinforce that great change you have made.

Menthol binds to the same receptor in your brain as nicotine, although not as strongly. It also binds to all kinds of other receptors too such as kappa opioid receptors and the ones that detect cold sensations. It’s really an interesting compound.

I quit smoking after 19 years, by just quitting

Alcohol has been way harder. 3 weeks sober right now.

I’ve decided to quit drinking too. It’s not that I was drinking all the time, in fact I’ve mostly limited drinking to social situations the last year or so, but when I did drink I could never just keep it to one or two, and I’d keep waking up with a headache and depression. At age 35 with a kid, the “fun” just isn’t worth it.

This is a great idea.

I’ve also heard that when you’re ready to quit the cough drops, you should try meth.

I may have to try that. Perfect timing too. My sinuses have been nuts for the last few days and I haven't even been wanting to smoke. I have because, addiction, but maybe just maybe this will help. Knowing my luck, I'm going to wake up tomorrow and my sinuses are going to be fine.
