Bordelonville

Even St Tammany Parish, Lafayette Parish, or Ascension Parish has fairly high property taxes. Property taxes will go up everywhere but don’t voluntarily move to a place where they charge you more rent for your own property.
Give you an example: Texas. Great for "no tax" on retirement income I've heard, but those property taxes are outrageous. You trade one for the other.

North is pretty much undeveloped. I'm talking the town of Haughton, not Hwy 80 Bossier suburb. But there are some nice housing areas: Cornerstone and Tuscany Village off Hwy 3227. That area is seeing some nice growth.

You just gotta move to an undesirable spit in texas. All the best spots are high property tax

Same for Zachary/St Francisville/Port Hudson/Pride/part of Central. Nepots and cronies run amok in politics and public service jobs. “Just’good ol’ baws”
I’m not sure there are any good “ole baws” in the traditional sense for Port Hudson. I recently moved to a place where I am I’m not in that network so to speak and I moved there at least in part because of it. I like the way they do things and I‘m not trying to get into that network and for the reason you mentioned I’ll never be in it.
As to OP if you can at all gtfo Louisiana that is your best bet. Later in life I’ll move to be relatively close to where ever my kids are most likely. But damn I’m trying like hell to get them to move out of this state ran like complete shite.

Whatever town is closest to Texas besides Shreveport.

You can get this in other places without having to live in Assumption parish. That is good ole boy politics at its finest.

If you don't have one of about 10 different last names, or have a bunch of friends with those names...do not move to Point Coupee Parish!
What small town does this not apply to?

Are you seriously advocating for Slidell over Madisonville?
Just pick Old Mandeville and call it a day.
I wouldn't do St. Tammany at all. Property taxes are too high. And as a retired person, you won't give a shite about public schools.

give me Mandeville along the lakefront.
This is really the only place in the state that I would consider.
Screw living anywhere in the country in this state. You will always be near trashy folks and not close to any good restaurants or bars.

Or how it's relevant unless you plan on getting involved in local politics in your final years. If the government stays out of your business, isn't overtly corrupt, and doesn't tax you much....I won't care about it more than my hobbies.
I'd definitely go with a smaller town.

Parks, La. Close to Henderson for fishing; Breaux Bridge and Laffy if you need to go to town. Laid back and quiet.

I’m partial to Natchitoches. It has its own little unique thing going .

That’s Ruston to a tee.

f I’m just sorta ballin’, give me Mandeville along the lakefront.
I guess I’m sorta ballin. Or at least I was cause I lived on the lakefront. It was real nice. 125 year old historic home with 12’ ceilings heart pine floors, lots of nice fire places, and an incredible view.
As nice as it was, there was always something gnawing at me. Then it hit me. I have no real access to the lake. I can look at it and it’s great but I can’t ‘use’ it.
Moved to lewisburg and that changed. I was out on the lake all the time but still something was missing. The fish. And the ducks. Fishing sucked and the duck hunting was too remote.
So Slidell it is and I never looked back. It’s not trashy as some say but I really don’t care what people say. They don’t know. And what difference does it make what others think?
I am on the water and get out on the lake, in the marsh or in the rivers all the time. Fishing is incredible. Duck hunting is at times, real good. Sometimes not but that’s duck hunting these days.
Frankly, It’s why I love Louisiana.
It’s not for everyone but for those that love it, there’s nothing better.

Bunkie is the only acceptable answer

A small town in CenLa noone knows about or wants to live in. Roughly 2 hours from Laffy, 2.5 from BR, 30 minutes to Alex (better airport than Shreveport, at least currently), hourish from Natchez, and Monroe, and you can hunt and fish until its time for the old folks home. Plus COL is low so you can live like a king.
