Everyone remembers 2016 being the Mercs, but RIC upped Seb by 45 pts that year. It is a lot to say "if it weren't for the Mercs" however RIC showed he had enough to be champion one day.
Less than 2 years later and RBR are putting him out to pasture.

Right, and even post-Red Bull he was no chump, beating Nico on points 54-37 in 2019 and then beating Ocon 119-62 in 2020 plus scoring Renault they're first podium, two P3s in 2020, since 2011. I think Red Bull lowballed him with the assumption they could get solid #2 performance from Gasly and then Albon and that didn't work out for them.
I'd remember reading when he moved to McLaren that Carlos had warned him that the car was particularly tricky to understand, and I just don't think he ever grasped it. The fanboy in me isn't ready to accept that Ricciardo just magically turned into straight arse overnight, more that the McLaren is extremely hard to get it right. Which also makes me curious how much potential Lando would have in a better car, in a similar case to George in the Williams, a shite car is all he's ever known.
The Race had a good video about how Red Bull was really stunned at some pretty bad habits Ricciardo had picked up driving the McLaren, saying that they were shocked how far off from Max and Checo he was in the sim, and he'd had to change his driving style to suit the McLaren. However, it sounds like he's dropping those habits and coming back around.
With the recent rumors that DeVries is getting pressured to lose his seat to Danny Ricc does that mean Red Bull feel like he's back up to form? Hopefully we get to find out.

I think the rumor that Ricciardo might replace de Vries got started because there was a rumor that Ricciardo went to AT for a seat fitting. However, that rumor got shot down, he didn't go to AT. The current scuttlebutt is that Liam Lawson is Red Bull's first choice if de Vries gets kicked out. But I don't know if that says anything about what they think of Ricciardo right now.

Sounds like Imola is going to get pounded with rain this weekend and some are calling for the GP to be abandoned due to the flooding risks in the area.
Sunday may be the driest day. Quali may be the wettest.

Imola hosts the first round of the European triple-header and, while there, Pirelli are testing a new rule that mandates the use of every tyre compound in qualifying. This regulation change reduces the amount of slick tyres that drivers are allocated – from 13 to 11 sets – over the weekend.
“At Imola we will be testing a new regulation that requires teams to use a different type of compound for each of the three sessions, with the hards fitted for Q1, the mediums for Q2, and the softs for Q3,” said Motorsport Director Mario Isola.
quote:
Pirelli are also introducing a new full wet tyre compound for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, similarly seeking to improve sustainability as they avoid the use of electric tyre blankets, with the objective to eliminate thermal blankets by 2024.
“Also with the same end in mind, starting with this Grand Prix a new compound for Full Wet tires will be introduced that will not require the use of thermal blankets before being used." added Isola. "Track tests have shown even better performance than the previous Cinturato Blue Full Wet, even without electrically heating the tire. This is a first concrete step, the result of studies carried out by Pirelli, toward the use of dry tires without preheating as well."

1) How can sustainability be their goal when they require teams to change tires for each qualifying session?
2) Thassalotta water.

I agree with him. frick Red Bull, who is incidentally the only team to go over the cost cap so far. Cheating should never be rewarded.

Personnel told to evacuate the circuit at Imola due to risk of flooding. Fingers crossed it proves only precautionary and everyone is given the all-clear to resume prep at some stage, but safety has to come first #F1

Not saying I agree with it, but they are saying they will be producing and shipping fewer tyres. They didn't specify, but I assume it will be a couple fewer sets of softs.

I'm sure Lewis shared this sentiment in 2014-2021 when Mercedes was dominating.

I’m not expecting a race this weekend. Bummer.

Drivers a keenly aware of how non-competitive racing is bad for the sport.

“I was a teenage kid, I would have woken up, had my bacon sarnie (sandwich) and probably watched the start and gone to sleep and then woke up to watch the end. If I was watching today I would do the same, most likely and watch the highlights because it’s much shorter, unless a friend told me there was a super exciting race on TV so that you watch the whole thing.
“Ultimately, this is not what fans (want)… and I hope that people need to hopefully understand that this isn’t our fault. At the end of the day we’re drivers, we’ve come through all the ranks, we’ve earned the positions that we have and we come in weekend in, weekend out, devoted and give absolutely everything to go out there and perform at our best.
“Ultimately the decision makers who design the cars, who set rules and those kind of things, are the ones that you could apply pressure to to ultimately do a better job moving forwards, if that’s possible. I’m hopeful that’s what they’re going to do in 2022 and with that new-type car, maybe we’ll see a different form of racing where you can follow. Wouldn’t that be something if we can follow closer and have more close races?”

The race is not looking likely. Supposed to be an announcement around 9:00 central time.

Well thats a bummer... I guess no direction on whether it will be rescheduled and if so, when?
Posted on 5/17/23 at 6:38 am to Lsut81
I doubt it is rescheduled. Triple header weekends followed by trip to Canada.
It's a Euro race so there is a better chance I guess.

I've already planned tennis and yard work around the GP this weekend. Now everything is chaos. I'm suing the FIA
