Stale
Their "rivalry" is essentially confined to one memorable playoff game in the 80's (the catch) as well as 3 year in the early 90's. The Cowboys would probably say they care much more about the Giants, Eagles, and Redskins than San Francisco

Don’t know many people outside of Dallas and Shreveport that pay attention to the cowboys, so really don’t know if they even have a rivalry

New Orleans fans spend an inordinate amount of time considering the Cowboys.

I would say it’s easily top 5. While you don’t have the large number of games against each other, you do have a number of key playoff games. They met in the NFC championship game 6 times with the winner being the eventual Super Bowl champion 5 of 6!

It was definitely a period rivalry, but I’d give its importance a bit more credit than that.

As a Cowboys fan, let me correct the record.
We do consider it a rivalry, especially in the playoffs. We hate the 9ers, the Steelers, and the Packers just as much as we hate the Eagles, Giants, and Redsk… whoops… “Commanders.”

Not sure what the poster is referring to.
Dallas is a national brand and has a national fan base.
I’ve always said, Cowboys, Steelers and Packers have national fan bases.

It’s not any different from the Celtics-76ers rivalry. Celtics-76ers have the most meetings in the NBA playoffs but it’s only been a major rivalry during the Wilt-Russell years and a few years during the early ‘80s.

This is a good comp, imo.

Somewhere Top 10-15? They’ve played some immensely consequential games
It’s just hard to develop a rivalry of pure hate not playing in the same division / geographic area. I’m not sure most SF/DAL fans can even remember their last regular season matchup
It’s a rivalry purely because of the (NFL record) 9 postseason games

Is the best new rivalry Baltimore versus Cincy or Baltimore versus Pittsburgh?
I feel like the best rivalry in the early 2000’s was the Baltimore versus Pittsburgh.
