Price of eggs will still be 6.50 a dozen
But the folks calculating the inflation rate for the country are switching methods of calculation. Before, a two year average was used for establishing the base rate, now it will only be one. for this year it will be based on 2021 data. A most unusual year.
Rest assured, the new calculation will show a serious drop that has already been gamed in.
I do the household grocery shopping and a lot of upward adjustments were made during the holidays.
My prediction for January, 8.5 % old system, 5.9% new system

So inflation isn’t as inflated as it was? Is it like being slightly less pregnant? Maybe more like being a little less stupid?

no chance this administration would ever fudge the numbers or deflect from them with meaningless other statistics. i don’t believe it.

I love threads like this on the PT where people just drop new facts and statistics with no link

Current rates of inflation are utterly unacceptable, but you do realize that we are in the middle of a massive avian flu epidemic, right? We've killed over 50M chickens in the US alone. Japan was up to 10M last I heard. We're probably in the hundreds of millions worldwide.
Chicken eggs probably aren't the best indicator of inflation at the moment, at least not in the context of governmental policy.
