Just returned from the vicinity of Driskill Mountain

The weather was uncharacteristically clear for this time of year and the summit was visible in all its majesty. If you've never made a trek in the off season, it's a totally different experience. In a few weeks you'll hear dozens of languages being spoken as teams gather from around the world. Lines of porters will be ferrying equipment to higher altitudes, and vendors will fill the market stalls hawking their wares. But now it's just indigenous people living much the same slow paced life their ancestors did.

You can see the states of Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi high atop the summit on a clear day.

Impressive but doesn’t quite match up with Britton Hill in FL.
Highest point in the state at an unimaginable 345 feet above sea level.
On a clear day you can see clear into the next… county.

I want to make the trek to the summit. But I’ll wait until hunting season is over so I don’t get blown away by Big D and his Bubba firing into a moving bush.

Sadly my climbing partner is aging and his doctor ordered no more low oxygen environments, so our yearly summit is now out of the question

We started with a group of 4 on the trek to the summit.
Only I made it back down
Lost 2 in a crevasse just short of summit
Was tough to tell their families about it

The hogs have run a lot of deer off in that area, not much season left, and folks are getting
itchy trigger fingers.

Louisiana likes to focus on being highly rank at negative things and is the #2 ranked state in regards to having the lowest point of elevation. New Orleans being partly below sea level is good for something, and though it’s more likely to fill with water with just the right combination of events and drainage an area around Bayou Corn might someday help the state become #1. To stay #1 for the long term they will probably need the help of the Army Corps of Engineers.
