I would do it, Temple and 2 2nds just to evaluate him for the rest of the year and see if you’d want to keep him.
He's not any good. He can't shoot. He never could shoot. He hasn't shot the 3 well in the NBA. He didn't shoot the 3 well in college. I'm pretty sure he didn't shoot the 3 well in high school either.
It's pretty perplexing that he went so long in his career fooling people into thinking he was a good shooter while never ever being a good shooter.
He'd never crack our rotation, so not sure how we'd evaluate him or figure out if we wanted to sign him to a new deal when he was down at the end of the bench.

Dude is going to need a contract after the season. There's no way we can integrate him and give him enough playing time to assess what he's worth to this team.
We'll have issues finding minutes for our plethora of wings that are already on the team when both Zion and BI returns making impossible to give Reddish a shot.
It would make more sense for a bad team who has nothing to loose and minutes to give him to evaluate him. We aren't in that position.

All it takes is one sucker, either buying high or selling low, to reset the market.
Question is “What teams are looking to move and have assets?” We pretty much know which teams are likely selling based on standings and long term contracts.
In a position to buy -
Boston (2023 1st top 12 protected to Pacers, otherwise all firsts available)
Indiana (owns all their firsts plus Boston, Cleveland 2023 firsts)
Memphis (owns 2024 GSW first, top 4 protected, plus all their own firsts)
Us
Phoenix (all their picks)
Portland (All their minus a 2023 first to Chicago, top 14 protected)
Sacramento (All theirs minus a 2014 first with protections to Atlanta)
Every other team I see with picks on hand is in the middle of tanking such as OKC, Orlando, Houston, Utah, etc, and won’t be spending assets on Collins unless it is at a fire sale price.
Even from that list of contenders, I don’t necessarily see anyone needing a big like Collins at that price.

He can play good defense and he has games where he can go off scoring.
I would rather a young guy we can evaluate in practice, maybe even send him to Bham for a little while over Temple who we know is not a long term player.
Add in that he’s a RFA this off-season who will not get paid much of anything, and you can do worse for a trade.
Also like I said, there’s a lot of potential there (much like Jax), someone just needs to figure out how to unlock it.

Change it to Trey Young and they'll have a deal.

I thought this was an interesting trade proposal from David Fisher
- Knicks get a "shooter" that plays the kind of defense coaches like Thibs appreciate.
- Pels get off of Graham's contract with an expiring solid PG and a big that's a good rebounder and was excellent on offense off the bench with the Clippers last year but is not doing well with Thibs.
- Pistons get 2 scratch offs for an expiring vet on a rebuilding team. Neither may be players the Pistons want, but it's still a solid return on Joseph. And since they aren't really giving up anything, Hayes or Reddish wouldn't have much leverage in contract negotiations next year. They could just let them go if it doesn't work out without feeling they gave up anything.

I would pull the trigger on that today

How would the center minutes shake out with Jval/Nance/Hartenstein?
Posted on 1/10/23 at 2:23 pm to TigerinATL
Cory Joseph isn't any good, and he can't shoot. He'd play as many minutes as Temple should.
Hartenstein isn't playing a minute when JV/Nance/Zion are all healthy. I wouldn't mind getting him though as he is a decent rim protector.
If that's what we are getting in return for Jax/DG, and the Knicks actually want DG, then we should be getting some 2nd round picks back in this deal.

I’m team trade nobody.
We have enough to win it all.
Just have to get healthy, which seems impossible, no matter who is on our roster.
A Ship would just mean more with Jax’s goofy arse and Graham’s 3 pt specialist shooting 28% on the roster.

There's no question he'd be the 3rd string center, but to me that's all we need. Injury/Foul trouble insurance, and someone with a different set of skills that's still a 7 footer. So if JV doesn't have it that night and Larry's too small, plan C is something other than hope Billy can outscore them.
I don't know a ton about Hartenstein but his rebounding numbers are good, his assist numbers with the Clippers were fantastic, as was his at the rim FG% suggesting he was good at both giving and receiving in the post. I wish he were a little more mobile, he seems like someone that would need to do drop coverage like JV. But at a glance Hartenstein looks like he could provide a new mix of skills that help on those nights when neither JV or Larry are the answer.

Not sure he would. Basically, I almost think he's too good, if that makes sense. You have to get a guy that is content to be the 3rd big, think about the Willy minutes. Few and far between. Hartenstein seems a tad too good for that.

Unless Kira or seaborne or temple are the assets no trade.
The only trade is for an injury or a starter and I don't see the starter happening.
The team chemistry is solid I wouldn't mess with it.

You aren't making that trade for Joseph, most of us here want Graham's minutes going to other players already. If you make that trade it's because you get off Graham's contract and you think Hartenstein is the player you need Jaxson to be. That may not be true either. It's just one of the few trades I've seen that is enough win win win that it could actually happen and possibly plugs one of the holes we have.

The issue I pointed out a couple of days ago is...is I assume Hartenstein isn't happy in his role now, but would he really be ok with a much, much smaller role here? I'm not sure he would.
That speaks to the chemistry you mentioned. I'm not saying Hartenstein would be some huge malcontent causing trouble, but it would not help the chemistry if he goes from a team playing every game to a team where he's in the Willy role racking up DNPs and getting 8 minutes 1 game per week or some shite like that. If he's not happy with that role, it's probably not best to make that move. If you feel he'd be content to do that, then I'm all for it.

Report: Detroit Pistons want unprotected 1st-round pick and good young player for Bojan Bogdanovic
nah

That's gotta be fake. They barely gave up anything to acquire him. I can understand 1 lottery protected first or a young promising player but both with an unprotected first is stupid.
Posted on 1/11/23 at 10:53 am to supe12sta12z
There also were reports of over 10 teams inquiring. That probably was leaked by Detroit too, but I'm sure it's based on a kernal of truth. If Bogdonavic is the hot name on the market you raise the price and see if anyone bites.
