1978 GE Widescreen 1000

I remember those. Picture wasn't worth crap.

The GE Widescreen 1000 retailed for $2,800 in 1978, equivalent to $12,723 in 2022 dollars
The screen size was 45 inches measured diagonally (36 inches across and 27 inches vertically), not 75 inches

What was the weight? Setting the O/U at 350

Free-standing TVs look so trashy.

That thing is basically a Mardi Gras float.

Only thing missing is the kid that had to go outside to turn the old school 20+ foot antenna to get a better picture of the game.

There were fricking horrible. I remember my parents had some friends we used to go watch LSU away games with at their house when they were on Tiger Vision. They got a big screen TV (not as big as the one in the picture, but it was that screen where it being bigger made it look worse) and it was a big deal "it will look like you are on the field with the team". I just remember thinking the whole time "I wonder what it would be like to play Nintendo on it?"

This article guesses it was 150-200lbs.

The GE Widescreen 1000 looks like it should have weighed half a ton, but the looks are deceptive. It was largely empty space inside, so the cabinet contributed more to the weight than the CRT or the electronics. I couldn’t find any mention of the weight, but since it was the size of a large dresser, it was probably along the lines of 150 to 200 pounds.

Growing up, we rocked a beautiful bastard like this back in the day

We had this setup, although I don’t remember if it was an RCA or GE. The VCR alone cost over 1200.00, so over 4 grand, total. No cable, 2-3 channels.
I believe the family made me get rid of the VCR when I was decking the attic floor. In 2010. That mfer weighed about 50 lbs. The remote was on a wire which let you pause or unpause. Sweet, at the time.

My grandparents had one like that and used it deep into the 2000s. After they died I think we just left it in the house after my dad sold it because it was heavy as shite and who wanted that thing these days. I kind of wish we would have moved it somewhere and kept it now..

Whatever it weighs, if you put a Sony Trinitron logo on it, go ahead and add 100lb.
Those SOB's had lead weights in them.

OMG, this reminds me of my days as an A/V installer. An old lady asked us to put a 40" Mitsubishi on top of her kitchen cabinets. That thing was 210 pounds.
