I never said we would have a bad class lmao. I said don’t expect to win the HUGE recruits. The difference between a good class and a great class.

Can still finish top 5 every cycle

Yes, I’m sure that’s true, but the question is whether LSU could have matched Oregon for Austin if they weren’t holding back money for Ricks. They need to get to a place like Bama did with Brown and Ricks where they have one guy willing to wait and see how things play out with the other before signing.

Fair enough, but at what point does it become a matter of pride for someone like Ricks. He's basically admitting that he knows Bama wanted Brown more but since they lost him they are now showing interest by increasing the NIL. Unless the amount is so outrageous that he can't say no to it.

And engaging in bidding wars over a kid sends a bad message to the rest of the team.

Problem is if Ricks does not come to LSU, in the process he sabotaged our chance with the kid from California who had been committed for a long time.

This whole thing is bad news for college football

it all started having some money to go see mom over the holidays and now we have lawyers drawing up deals with 7 figures..

this is now professional sports...of 18 year olds who haven't passed a single college course

Nobody has talked about it here that i have seen, but it is entirely possible that Ricks always wanted to go to Bama and used LSU for leverage. Ricks never committed here.
And when Bama lost their top CB recruit it placed Ricks in a position to both get in and cash in.
Not saying this happened, but it seems possible.

Name the last California signee or commitment that stuck around.
Exactly. If the coaches put value into 'cultural fit', they should stay away from California kids.

Nor should he be...see Ta&m as Exhibit A and yes, NTP's 42% rate of attrition.

Rate of attrition is the key to reigning in NIL

Fat last minute NIL deal from Oregon.

From what I have seen, that kid has been on flip watch for a while now, and not because of NIL primarily. Word has been he wanted to stay on the west coast. Though I am sure Oregon/Nike money impacted his specific choice.

When do you expect we will ever win a bidding war with Alabama for a recruit?

We won't.

I don't know when BK said anything about the bidding war thing but if he did he is correct.

LSU and BK cannot finishing fixing the culture problem at LSU and also go all in bidding high dollar NIL deals for guys who haven't played a down of college football. Its fools gold.

Can Bama...maybe.

And even if we do decide to go big on an NIL thing for a recruit...it sure as hell aint gonna be a DB recruit. QB, DL, OL. Nobody else is worth that.

Ummm one guy was waiting while the other wines with Oregon yesterday

But it was the wrong order of player priority. LSU needed Austin waiting on things to play out with Ricks.

This is why I won't get upset about him going to Bama if it happens.

It’s pretty simple, some kids just want to be groupies.
