Wait until the finish the work because it'll not only show the expense that won't improve traffic but it'll also show more collection points for trash and run down older infrastructure.

I've noticed a lot of broken-down vehicles on the side of the interstate lately with the orange stickers on the back windshield.
There's even one crashed into a tree on 12 eastbound between Sherwood and Millerville with a sticker on the window. Saw it yesterday.

They honestly just need to scrap that plan until a new bridge is built so there can be a bypass for some of the traffic. All the cross country I-10 traffic plus local traffic is simply too damn much to shut it down to one lane.

Baton Rouge is a slowly dying corpse of a creature. Pustules of rot pepper it's body, oozing graft, corruption, disease, and filth. The last vestiges of civilized society retreat further and further out, or build compounds surrounded by the decay they refuse to honestly acknowledge. The scales have tipped too far, there's no coming back from it.
The demographics will continue to drag the rest of you deeper and deeper down the toilet in to the sewage that always follows that demographic.
In 10 years, or maybe less, you will be Detroit, Philly, or any other democratic run slum.
I'll be back to visit for Christmas, and I can promise you that once again I'll tell myself "thank God I got out of here".

You didn't escape very far. Should have gone to Oregon or Vermont.

For some reason, in Louisiana, no one respects our highways. It’s a giant trash can for all our use.

Detroit

A new wave of development is rippling through downtown Detroit.
"Walking around Detroit in 2008 or 2009 is not the same as walking around in 2022," said Ramy Habib, a local entrepreneur. "It is absolutely magnificent what happened throughout those 15 years."
quote:
Detroit fell into bankruptcy amid auto industry globalization and local suburban sprawl.
The city bounced back by attracting new investments by awarding tax abatements to commercial developers while raising consumption and property taxes on residents.
quote:
Local leaders have used tax and spending policies to advance economic development downtown. In July 2022, the Detroit City Council finalized a tax abatement for the real estate developer Bedrock to finance the $1.4 billion Hudson's site project. The abatement could be worth up to $60 million over its 10-year span. Bedrock is in a family of companies controlled by billionaire investor Dan Gilbert, who moved several of his businesses downtown in 2010.

I’ve always found it odd how many people on this board think of Detroit as the city it was 15 years ago and not the city it is today, and more than likely have never set foot in the city.
I don’t get it.

Looks like the debris collecting along the barriers has been there for years. Weeds, trash, blown tires everywhere. Those big sound barriers look like they’ve been in baghdad for 100 years but less clean, all stained and black. Over half of of the guard rails are damaged or missing. Gross. Completely neglected. Ridiculous for the all the industry we have around here.
If you believe that is bad go and look under the interstate in the downtown area from Spanishtown Rd. down to the Washington St. exit.
I believe that within the next 5 years the interstate will be consumed by mildew.
After the next time the capitol bldg. is pressured washed it should be covered with a giant ribbed condom without lube for our protection.

Sounds like a mixed bag. The tax abatements for blighted properties are a great idea but I don’t like the notion of higher consumption taxes (dem euphemism for a sales tax) to spruce spruce up downtown Detroit, but then again, people get what they vote for.
And for the record, I’ve been to Detroit.

Help me understand when there is only one lane both directions and there is an accident or a car breaks down. What is their plan?
The head of DOTD said it isn’t true that the interstate will be reduced to one lane in each direction…..except in the section it’s reduced to one lane.
quote:
In a formal response, Louisiana transportation chief Shawn Wilson has told state Attorney General Jeff Landry he is mistaken in saying that plans to widen Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge means the roadway will be trimmed to one lane in each direction.
"Contrary to your perceived understanding of the project, the current design maintains two travel lanes in each direction on the three-mile section of I-10 within a 12-14 month period," Wilson said in a letter and email to Landry.
"The I-10 westbound flyover onto the Mississippi River bridge may be temporarily reduced from two lanes to one lane for roughly 1,200 feet," he said Tuesday.
