I'm sure this has been covered on this board before, but I recently came into some money and would like to spend it on Tamales from the delta. What's the best restaurant/establishment to have them shipped from?

ETA: I'm joking on the money piece, I just want some tamales.

That's probably pretty tough to find. Most of the legit tamale places aren't run by folks that do a lot of internetting. I think Fat Mamas ships. But they're not very good delta hot tamales, imo.

M&M Hot Tamales

Woodville, MS

Not sure if they meet the criteria for Delta Tamales but they are damn good!

School me here. What is a delta tamale? I’m from east Houston Texas and know our tamales.

it's not hard to make your own ... I followed the Manuel's recipe and tweaked it a little. I spent < $20 and ended up with around 6 dozen tamales. Total kitchen time invested around 2-3 hours which was prep, browning meat, and rolling tamales. Cook time was 5-6 hours spent in the crock pot on low. end result

After reading/looking at the criteria, M&M definitely fits the description of Delta tamales. Stop by. They are cheap and delicious.

After moving away from northeast LA over 30 years ago, I randomly ordered some tamales at Champys Chicken in Chattanooga. They actually were legit Delta style. Can’t say they were as good as Doe’s and some other mom/pop places back home but they were pretty dang good. Rather pricey though. I think Champys opened a location in Alabaster if I’m not wrong. May want to check them out.

Anyone have a recommendation between Tupelo and Memphis? I know that’s a little north of the ones names in this thread.

I started making a batch today. The meat is done and will finish tomorrow since it’s supposed to rain all day. I used the meat recipe that Got blaze posted but will do masa and wrap in corn husks.
Hoping for the best.

Guillory's down in Metairie. On Derbigny a few blocks off Severn.

They will ship, but it's way better sitting in there with a mess of delta tamales, a stack of saltines, and an ice cold Barq's.

The fried chicken is the t*ts too.

Here’s a list of places in the Delta that have banging tamales off the top of my head:

Hot Tamale Heaven in Greenville
5 O’Clock on Deer Creek in Scott
Crystal Grille and Honest Abe’s donuts in Greenwood
Tom’s on Main in Yazoo City
Airport Grocery in Cleveland

I think all of the Lost Pizza’s have them

Not included: Doe’s. I don’t love them. Something about not being in a corn husk.. And there’s better appetizer options there. Mainly, broiled shrimp.
