1. There’s no way it can be the worst Christmas movie when you have Hallmark, Netflix, and the other channel cranking out dog shite Christmas movies every day
2. Sorry but A Christmas Story captures what it’s like yo be a kid at Christmas and dying for that one gift all season better than any Christmas movie. Does it deserve to be played for 24 hours straight? Probably not, but it’s still a strong Christmas movie even if it’s slightly overrated

My BIL sits and watches the marathon in a loop while it’s on at my parents house every time we go. He must have seen it 100 times. I mean it’s ok, but damn I think it’s his all time favorite movie of any genre.

How are people "pushing" this movie?

As has been posted before, this movie was literally created by marketing and saturation. A modern-day It's a Wonderful Life.

Seriously go watch some Mormon-produced Christmas movies.

There are probably worse ones out there, but I haven't seen em. That's a whole nother level of hell than where ACS is stationed.

No. It was created by screenplay writer, a production company, and director. Just like all movies. Marketing and saturation had nothing to do with this movie be made in 1983.

Even Discovery has gotten in on this, except they’re incorporating their reality stars into it.

It seems they all realized you can crank these things out on a shoestring budget and people will watch just because

I mean shite Amazon is selling a metric frick ton of Christmas movies for $0.99.

Do you know how cheap those movies had to be to get sold for $1 on Amazon?

Fun little film to watch every few years. It is fun because there is so much truth in it.

Whose father did not obsess about some element of home or yard maintenance? Whose parents did not argue about one household decoration or another? Whose family did not have some sort of ongoing dispute with one of the neighbors? Who did not have to deal with neighborhood bully? Who did not spend hours untangling and getting the darned Christmas lights to work?

And yes, whose parents did not warn them about putting an eye out with the BB gun?

And the film treats all of them as the overblown silliness that they actually were.

funny thing. I have absolutely no recollection of this film ever having been in the theaters. In fact, I have no recollection of it even existing until about five or 10 years after it came out.

It came out in 1983. How old are you?

Like, kids don't get to do little things like decorate trees anymore. Parents do it because they hijacked Christmas for that nostalgia dopamine hit.

The movie is a nostalgic capture of post war America after WWII. I think it was done quite well as I’m old enough to relate to it.

Running it on what seems like a continuous loop during the holidays has ruined it though. The old ‘leave them wanting more’ rule.

That said: NOTTAFINGA!!!
And the mom was hawt.

Around 1985 or so HBO started playing it around the Xmas and it became a family favorite for the holidays. We would watch it every year together. I love the movie but its the memories of laughing until it hurts with my loved ones that makes it special to me.

Aren't you liek 39-42 somewhere in that range? That was when it hit cult status. I remember watching it a bunch as a kid. And it being on TV. Not the 24-hour TBS thing, but enough to make an impression.

I am 42 and it definitely was around when I was a kid.

Absolutely. I wouldn't watch that movie again if they stuck my dick in a lawnmower.

It may not be the worst, but it is by far the most overrated.

"A Christmas Story" ruined Christmas is a hot goddamn take, for the sake of having a hot take.

It is the height of bullshite hipster shock and awe.

You're better than that
