Is A Christmas Story the worst Christmas movie?
I don’t know about the worst. But it’s one of the most overrated movies ever though. I get why it is beloved, but I never thought it was very good.

I saw it in the movies when it came out and thought it was hilarious. You have to be a certain age because most of what happens in that movie was real in the past. Parents literally would say "don't shoot your eye out". And a tree without large multicolored lights on it was not a real tree. Even today I hate trees with just white lights. Boring.

Same guy made Porky’s. Went to my high school. Dad was the county sheriff. Director was a child of the 50’s in the South, but set the film in the North in the 1940’s. I think it’s a wonderful film. However, I do have a bit of bias when it comes to genuinely funny, well-made, intelligent movies. (And, “you’ll put your eye out” was really a thing back then.)

How can it be the worst when Elf exists?
Elf is the only movie I rented that I turned off within a half hour. Beyond awful.

It wasn’t bad until TBS started doing the 24 hr bullshite, now I hate it after a family member refusing to let us watch something else.

It's like Hocus pocus for dudes
Young GenX through Millennials have a weird obsession with nostalgia. It's ruined so much, Christmas being #1.
Like, kids don't get to do little things like decorate trees anymore. Parents do it because they hijacked Christmas for that nostalgia dopamine hit.

It's fine. The 24 hour marathon has turned hating it into the "contrarian" shtick for the usual tryhards who act as if they dislike everything that is marginally popular.
Santa Clause is much worse.

Is it a “not well made movie”? Yes, but it’s the nostalgia that goes with it that makes it great.
15-20 years ago, I didn’t mind the 24hr running of it, because that was the only time it would play all year. It was like waiting for a Charlie Brown special that only aired once a year.
Back when my daughters were little, I would lock myself in the bedroom, put the TV on TBS, and start putting toys together for 2-3 hours. (fricking Barbie Dream House).
In the last 5-10 years, TBS started playing it nearly every weekend during the holiday season. They killed the nostalgia of the movie.
The reason “Christmas Story Christmas” did so well this year, is because it ignited the nostalgia again.
P.S. - who ever said “Elf” is the worst Christmas movie ever, can suck my balls!!!

But the op thinks it is worse than Home Alone 3 and Madea's Christmas. . .which basically means his opinion is shite

You take opinions real serious don’t you. Take midol and apply a tampon and come back to the forum when your cycle has passed.

Aren't you liek 39-42 somewhere in that range? That was when it hit cult status. I remember watching it a bunch as a kid. And it being on TV. Not the 24-hour TBS thing, but enough to make an impression.
It may not have gotten to the 24 hour loop yet, but it was playing a ton in the 90s and early 2000s on TBS already.

It’s in the running. Hallmark’s giving it lots of competition though.

The director didn’t set the film there.Jean Shepherd, the guy who wrote the book on which it was based, did.

No one has ever done that. However at least once a year we get this stupid thread where people make hating this movie part of their identity. I can only assume their compensating for having a shitty childhood with terrible parents.
